Sleeping Rough for East Lancashire Hospice

Service:

Dad-of-three Robert Riley will be taking to the streets of London to live and sleep rough in memory of his Mum. The 26-year-old will experience homelessness in memory of mum Eileen, who passed away at East Lancashire Hospice two years ago.

For four nights and five days, Robert will sleep on the streets on London and work in homeless shelters throughout the day to earn food and drink. He will have no money, phone or contact with home — all to raise funds for the hospice, which cared for his mum.

Despite hearing from other fundraisers about how difficult it is to spend just one night sleeping rough, Robert said he was determined to do something special on the anniversary of his mum’s death, which falls on February 15. He said: “I have already spoken to some people who have tried this for one night as a fundraiser and they have told me how hard that was and warned me off it. “I want to do something really interesting and challenging for the hospice because I want everyone to know how important they are to this area. When we were there with mum, every cup of tea, every biscuit - even the furniture was down to donations from the public.” During his challenge Robert will be spending some time helping volunteers at St Martin’s Shelter in central London during the day.
