Blackburn Yarn Dyers

A family business which has served the region for more than a century is breaking new ground by entering the East Lancashire Hospice Corporate Challenge - and the managing director of Blackburn Yarn Dyers Anthony Green is joining the competition with a gusto shared by his fellow workers.

It comes at a perfect time for the company which has undergone a major restructuring in the recent year and is now reaping the benefits of the changes. And Anthony sees the corporate challenge as an excellent way of helping to enhance the staff morale and help create an enormous amount of team building amongst the 25 staff.

Blackburn Yarn Dyers is based at Grimshaw Park Dye Works in Haslingden Road, Blackburn. Founded in 1915 after the outbreak of the First World Ward the company dyes cotton, woollen and synthetic yarns for many UK, European and worldwide customers using high quality dyes and chemicals.

The highly specialist work has attracted the attention of some of the world’s biggest fashion houses and leading upholsterers.

“We have supported East Lancashire Hospice for many years,” said Anthony. “Not in a big way but where possible. For instance, we have made annual donations each year and also chosen the hospice as our Christmas charity, which is printed in our Christmas cards sent out to all of our customers and suppliers”.

“However this year in the Corporate Challenge I would hope we can raise the best part of £10,000. That’s my target.”

The idea to join in the competition was formulated at a 30th celebration dinner for another Corporate Challenge company Alan Price. Anthony said: “We were talking about it at our table and I decided we would take part this year. I also have two good friends that have entered their companies Hugo Burrito and Miller Metre. Together we aim to put on a big dinner and share the proceeds.”

While the staff at Blackburn Yarn Dyers have yet to decide some of their fundraising events money raised by bag packing, scratch cards and raffles will help boost the total.
