East Lancs Hospice
East Lancashire Hospice is a registered charity, founded in 1984. We support and care for patients with a life limiting illness, their families and others close to them. We provide this in a number of ways; at the hospice and in people’s own homes across our community of Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley.
With approximately 120 employees and over 250 volunteers, our people are our biggest asset whom we value tremendously. Our services to the local community would not be possible without our motivated and caring workforce who always strive to deliver excellence in all that they do. A new opportunity has arisen as part of the re-structure of our catering team, for a Chef working circa 25 hours flexibly over seven days with two days off. Due to the nature of the organisation being a charity, the catering department is assisted through many of our wonderful volunteers and so this chef position will be different than your ‘everyday’ chef job.
You will be responsible with assisting in the high quality of food preparation, cooking and finishing to support the smooth running of the catering team. As the Chef you will contribute to the quality of the food and speed of service for both our patients and Café Retreat.
The Successful Candidate
You will have experience in a similar chef position and be able to work as part of a brigade in a busy service. You will have a sound culinary knowledge and preferably be qualified to level 3 in Professional Cookery. Strong hygienic practices and a good awareness of food safety management systems are crucial for this post along with strong communication skills.
The hospice staff and volunteers are paramount to the success of the hospice and therefore it is extremely important the successful applicant for this Chef post has strong people skills, a positive attitude and approachable nature. You must contribute to a high level of service whilst adopting our core values in everything you do.

What we offer
In return, the salary for this post is £12,999 for 25 hours, 5 days of 7, including one weekend in every three. The catering team have an excellent working kitchen with strong culinary experience throughout with Café Retreat recently being awarded a 5* hygiene rating.
