East Lancashire Hospice

Courtyard campaign to grow patients' activities

We have recently nominated ourselves to receive a small 'makeover' to a section of our hospice. Here's what we went to Team Ocean for their consideration:

We need Team Ocean to help spruce up our patients’ courtyard area. This requires tidying up, cleaning and creating one or two wooden, mobile, wheelchair-friendly raised gardens for growing plants and vegetables. With the team’s help in power washing, weeding flower beds and treating garden furniture, the courtyard will be transformed into a beautiful and practical space for the use and enjoyment of our patients.

The project would greatly benefit the wellbeing of the hospice Creative and Support Therapy members; they will be able to take on small tasks and reap the rewards when their planted seeds bloom into flowers or edibles. This kind of diversional therapy is incredibly rewarding for patients and gives them confidence that their illness is not a barrier to their achievements.

Team Ocean will see how the members will be able to grow by being able to use this space. They won’t just be growing vegetables, they will grow their independence.

It might seem like a small project but to our patients it will make a huge difference.

Wish us luck! Find out more about the Team Ocan Makeover compeititon here.
