The East Lancashire Hospice charity shop on Crabtree Street, Blackburn, is celebrating its first anniversary this September, after a successful first year serving the local community.

Since opening in September 2025, the shop has become a popular destination for shoppers looking for great value and quality bargains. The store’s success is thanks to the generosity of local donors and the dedication of shop manager Dionne and her team, and the hardworking volunteers, who help keep the shelves stocked with a selection of quality pre-loved items.

From men’s, ladies’ and children’s clothing to household goods, furniture, toys, games and books, there is something for everyone.

To mark the shop’s first anniversary, customers can enjoy special discounts of 20% off when they spend £20 or over until 30^th September , making it the perfect opportunity to discover some fantastic savings. Complimentary drinks and cake will also be available as staff, volunteers, customers and supporters come together to celebrate this special milestone.

For more than fifteen years, Elaine Hartley has been a cherished part of East Lancashire Hospice. She first joined as a volunteer after being invited by Sharon Crimble, then Director of Income Generation and Marketing, and quickly became a familiar face at our events.

Elaine spent many years working alongside Laura Isherwood, who coordinated our volunteers. After Laura died, Elaine was encouraged to continue the work Laura had poured so much heart into. She now comes in every week, giving her time, energy and kindness to support our teams and help coordinate volunteers for hospice events.

Outside the Hospice, Elaine is always discovering something new; pickleball, the gym or dry stone walling, but volunteering has always remained one of her greatest joys. “It’s loads of fun, and the people are lovely,” she said. “When you go into the Hospice, it’s like being given a big hug. It’s so warm and friendly. It wraps you up.”

This year, Elaine decided to celebrate a special birthday in a way that truly reflected her adventurous spirit: by organising her own skydive. It was something she’d wanted to do for a while, and marking her birthday felt like the perfect moment to finally tick it off her bucket list while raising money for a cause she cares deeply about.

“I don’t like heights, but I think everyone should do it,” she laughed. “I was absolutely fine and excited coming up to it, but I was a little nervous when I sat down and dangled my legs out of the plane.”

From 15,000 feet, Elaine took the leap and raised an incredible £780 in support of hospice care. She was met on the ground by her family, including her grandson Jacob, who had doubted she’d actually go through with it. “He was the first one I hugged,” she said. “I told him, ‘You know I’ve always been crazy,’ and he was very proud.”

Elaine began volunteering at East Lancashire Hospice because she simply wanted to help. “It’s such an amazing cause,” she said. “It’s a shame hospices don’t get more government funding. I’m so passionate about it.”

She also wants to thank everyone who donated, including those who gave anonymously. “I can’t thank them personally, but I’m so grateful,” she said. 

Elaine is a strong advocate for Gift Aid, which helped increase her final fundraising total. Gift Aid is a government scheme that allows charities to claim an extra 25% on donations made by UK taxpayers, at no extra cost to the donor. It means that for every £10 someone gives, the Hospice can receive £12.50, simply because the donor has confirmed they pay tax and are happy for the charity to reclaim it. It’s one of the easiest ways to make a donation go further, and many people don’t realise how much difference it makes. As Elaine said, “It’s fantastic and so worthwhile; more people should know about it!”

Elaine hopes her skydive inspires others to get involved, whether through our events, fundraising challenges or simply by showing up. “There’s so much help available for our community here, whether at the Hospice or through Hospice at Home,” she said. “Our events like Sunflower Memories or the Starlight Walk are so well organised and well attended. They’re a great way to support the Hospice, and there’s something for everyone.”

East Lancashire Hospice has appointed Interim Chief Executive Officer Nicola Hanna as its permanent CEO.

Nicola takes on the role at an important time for the Hospice as it continues to provide specialist palliative care and support to patients, their friends and families across Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley. Supporting people with life-limiting illnesses, the Hospice delivers a wide range of services including inpatient care, community support, wellbeing services and bereavement support, helping local people and those closest to them during some of life’s most difficult times.

Graham Parr, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, said:

“We are delighted that Nicola has accepted the role of CEO. Nicola has done a great job as Interim CEO, and the team at the Hospice are now looking forward to her continuing in the permanent role. Her focus will now be to provide stability, continuity and support, ensuring we remain true to our mission whilst continuing to deliver the specialist palliative care and support our community relies on.

East Lancashire Hospice must raise most of its annual running costs through fundraising, donations and retail income, making the continued support of the local community essential to sustaining its specialist services for future generations.

At East Lancashire Hospice, we are committed to educating healthcare professionals about end-of-life care across our community.

Following recent engagement with nursing and residential homes across Blackburn and Darwen, we have identified a growing need for additional support and training, for staff caring for residents with complex health needs.

By sharing the expertise of our Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) team, we hope to strengthen confidence and knowledge across care settings, helping more people to receive the right care at the right time, through bespoke training sessions focusing on key areas such as; ‘Recognition of Dying’, ‘Symptom Management for Registered Nurses’, and ‘Care in the Last Days of Life.’

As care needs become more complex, staff in these settings have seen an increase in supporting patients who require palliative and end-of-life care, often in situations that can change quickly.

Without specialist training, recognising when someone may be approaching the end of their life can be difficult. This can lead to uncertainty when making clinical decisions or responding to symptoms.

We recognise that nursing home staff work incredibly hard and face significant pressures in their day-to-day roles. These pressures, combined with a gap in specialist knowledge, can result in patients and their friends and families experiencing inequality in the care available to them.

Supporting staff with the right knowledge and guidance can help ensure residents receive compassionate and informed care that they deserve. 

Ultimately, this initiative reflects East Lancashire Hospice’s wider strategy; ensuring everyone receives the care and dignity that a hospice provides. 

For more than 20 years, Mary Stubbs, our Supportive Care Coordinator, has worked in hospice care. She began her career as a Creative Therapist at Bolton Hospice, later supported patients on the Inpatient Unit during the COVID pandemic, and has been a valued part of our Hospice at Home team for the past 18 months. She describes her role at East Lancashire Hospice as a privilege, spending time with patients and their friends and families in their own homes, offering comfort, reassurance and specialist support. Mary reflects: “Being part of the Hospice team gives me hope that in the darkest of times there can be something positive by working together with love and compassion.”

Throughout Mary’s career, dogs have played an important part in how she looks after her own wellbeing. During her first interview in palliative care, she was asked how she would cope with the emotional demands of the role. Mary explains her answer was simple. “I come home, walk my dog, and spend time observing the perfect way dogs live in the moment. They have always helped me through tough times, and I have always been incredibly grateful for the positive experience they bring to my life.”

After a particularly challenging period, Mary felt the need to do something positive. With her commitment to hospice care and her belief in the comfort dogs bring, organising a fundraising dog show felt like a natural step.

Mary has organised dog shows in the past, each one bringing people together through shared joy and community spirit. This year, she’s bringing her experience and working closely with our Events Fundraiser, Lia, to create the Raise the WOOF Dog Show!

For Mary, the Raise the WOOF Dog Show is about far more than a fun day out. It’s rooted in everything she believes hospice care stands for: compassion, community, and the small moments that make a difficult time feel a little lighter. As she explains:

“I see the difference Hospice care brings to not only our patients but their friends and families too. If there is something, no matter how small, that can be done to make them feel a little better, then it’s worth doing.”

Mary knows that hospice care depends on the support of our community so we can continue being here for the people of Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley. That’s why bringing people together for something joyful feels so important to her; seeing people come together, having fun and raising money for East Lancashire Hospice: “Hospice care depends on communities providing support. There’s no way we could exist without them. I hope the day brings in much‑needed funds to help the hospice carry on providing the specialist palliative care and support that our community so needs. I want to raise awareness of the importance of voluntary contributions to Hospice care; monetary and hours given. Most of all, I want everyone, especially our dogs, to have the best day.”

In the lead‑up to the event, Mary and Lia will be working with volunteers to prepare the showground, organise activities and make sure the day feels welcoming and full of character. Mary is looking forward to the event: “I’m already working on putting together activities to make the day the best it can be. There’s going to be some interesting dog activities and some good old-fashioned outdoor fun. We will have a range of stalls and a chance to look around Cheltenham Farm Retreat, which our hosts have generously donated.”

Mary’s message to anyone planning to attend is heartfelt:

“Please come along and join us on Sunday, 23rd of August. Have lots of fun. Soak up the atmosphere. Enjoy the community coming together. Give what you can, but most of all take away a positive feeling about hospice care. Fingers crossed for good weather!”

Jenna Hudson is a Staff Nurse on our Inpatient Unit, and although she officially joined the team last August, her connection to East Lancashire Hospice goes back much further.

Almost ten years ago, Jenna volunteered with us, long before she began her nursing career. It was here that she discovered her passion for end‑of‑life care. When her grandad later received care in our Inpatient Unit, it strengthened her belief that this was where she wanted to be. She went away to train, qualify as a nurse, and always knew she would return one day.

“It’s a privilege to work here. Supporting patients, their friends and families at such a difficult time is humbling. Patients stay with you forever, and every moment matters,” says Jenna.

One of Jenna’s favourite things about working at the Hospice is the team around her. She describes her colleagues as supportive, uplifting and always there for one another; a team of people who give her the strength and encouragement to give her best to every patient, friend and family member she supports.

Even now, she still has moments where she can’t quite believe she gets to work at East Lancashire Hospice. She jokes about her “imposter syndrome” and occasional “pinch‑me moments”, but beneath the humour is a genuine sense of gratitude. From the very first day she volunteered almost a decade ago, she knew this was where she belonged. She talked about the Hospice constantly, told anyone who would listen how much she loved it, and even based her assignments and dissertations on end‑of‑life care. Her passion has always been here, and it shows in everything she does.

That deep connection is exactly what has inspired her to take on one of the most daring events on our fundraising calendar, the Wing Walk, despite not being a natural thrill seeker!

Jenna’s Wing Walk journey began as a light‑hearted conversation in the staff room. A colleague mentioned upcoming fundraising events, someone suggested the Three Peaks Challenge, and Jenna quickly replied, “Absolutely not… I’d rather jump out of a plane!” 

Within minutes, her colleagues had taken her at her word, and before she knew it, she was signed up for a Wing Walk. She says she’s been inspired by the drive and passion of our Events Fundraiser, Lia, whose enthusiasm gave her the confidence to take on something so far outside her comfort zone.

The Wing Walk is a unique challenge where participants are safely secured to the top of a small, vintage aircraft as it takes off and soars through the skies. It’s certainly not something Jenna ever imagined doing, but she is determined to give back to the Hospice that means so much to her.

Jenna’s fundraising goal is to purchase Bluetooth speakers for every patient room, allowing families to play music that brings comfort, sparks memories and creates meaningful moments together. Through her work, she has seen first-hand the power of music and how a favourite song can calm, soothe and provide connection when words are difficult to find.

To help reach her target, Jenna has been busy exploring new fundraising ideas. The support she has received from friends, family, colleagues and her local community has been incredible.

Posters are displayed in her local pub, The Olive in Darwen, her hairdresser has a collection bucket in place, and friends are organising bake sales to support her efforts. Even families of patients have kindly donated to her fundraising page.

One particularly special gesture came from Elliott, the young son of one of her colleagues, who was so inspired by Jenna’s challenge that he painted her a picture for encouragement – something she says she will treasure forever.

Becoming a Gold Ambassador in support of East Lancashire Hospice, was a natural step for leading IT solutions provider, Nybble.

Kirsty, aged 42 from Great Harwood, was referred to East Lancashire Hospice for Complementary Therapy, following a cancer diagnosis. 

From the outside, her life looked full and busy; a growing family, an NHS career, and the anticipation of welcoming a third child. But in June 2023, during what should have been a joyful pregnancy, everything changed.

At 24 weeks pregnant, Kirsty discovered a lump in her breast. Like many mothers who had breastfed, she initially thought it was a blocked milk duct, a common symptom with breastfeeding. But just two weeks later, at 26 weeks pregnant, she received the devastating news that she had breast cancer.

Kirsty began chemotherapy while still pregnant. What should have been a time of excitement and preparation became a period filled with uncertainty, hospital appointments, and fear of the unknown. She faced hair loss, the physical toll of treatment, and the emotional weight of carrying both her baby and a cancer diagnosis. Despite everything, she persevered.

Her experience was isolating. Kirsty often felt she didn’t quite belong anywhere; was she a pregnant woman with cancer, or a cancer patient who happened to be pregnant? She felt like two different patients, rather than one whole person.

Searching for connection, she created an Instagram page, @mummyvscancer. What started as a way to process her own journey soon became a lifeline, not only for Kirsty, but for others. Through sharing her story, she connected with women facing similar diagnoses, built meaningful friendships, and offered support and guidance.

In September 2023, at 36 weeks, Kirsty gave birth to her daughter via C-section. Despite everything she had endured, her baby was born healthy, spending just one day in NICU and unaffected by chemotherapy.

Shortly after birth, Kirsty continued chemotherapy, completing her final session in December 2023. In January 2024, she underwent a lumpectomy and had 25 lymph nodes removed, all of which contained cancer. Although earlier scans had suggested a positive response to treatment, surgery revealed a different reality.

Plans for further preventative surgery were put on hold when, in March 2024, Kirsty was diagnosed with metastatic cancer. The disease had spread to her spine and sternum. She also discovered she carries the BRCA2 gene, meaning her children have a 50% chance of inheriting it.

The physical challenges were immense, but the emotional impact, particularly during radiotherapy, was equally profound. It was during this time that Kirsty began to look beyond clinical treatment for support.

In April 2025, her connection to East Lancashire Hospice became deeply personal when her step-dad, Kevin, received care on the Inpatient Unit. Kirsty and her family were able to stay by his side, spending precious time together in a compassionate and supportive environment. It was here she met Danielle, a Complementary Therapist, who introduced her to a different kind of care, one that focuses on the whole person.

After taking time to grieve, Kirsty was referred to the Complementary Therapy service in January 2026.

Now, she attends one-to-one sessions with Danielle and takes part in the Hospice’s Complementary Therapy Relaxation Group. From her very first appointment, Kirsty felt something she hadn’t felt in a long time; relaxed, listened to, and understood. Danielle took the time to get to know her, not just as a patient, but as a person with a life, a family, and a story.

Previously, Kirsty had often been turned away from massage and holistic therapies due to misconceptions around treating people with cancer. At the Hospice, she found acceptance and expertise.

Her perception of hospice care has completely changed. Where she once associated hospices with fear and end-of-life, she now sees East Lancashire Hospice as a place of warmth, compassion, and support, a place that cares for both patients and their friends and families.

Kirsty has experienced the Hospice from both sides: as a daughter saying goodbye to her step-dad, and as a patient seeking support. In both roles, she felt cared for, respected, and never alone.

Today, life for Kirsty is a constant balancing act; hospital appointments, blood tests, and recovery from ongoing treatments, all while raising three young children and continuing to advocate for cancer awareness during pregnancy. She uses her platform to raise awareness of cancer during pregnancy, encouraging others not to ignore symptoms.

Her youngest child is now two years old, living a full and healthy life. However, for Kirsty, uncertainty continues. She is currently awaiting biopsy results following signs of cancer progression on her Supraclavicular Lymph node.

Despite it all, Kirsty continues to face each day with strength, honesty, and determination, not just for herself, but for her family and for others who are in a similar situation.

After four years in post, Chief Executive Officer, Hilary Barrett, has stepped down from her role at East Lancashire Hospice. During her time as CEO, Hilary has led a period of significant progress and transformation for the Hospice, helping to build strong foundations for the future.  

Nicola Hanna, former Director of Income Generation and Marketing, has assumed the position of Interim Chief Executive Officer. During this time, Leanne Harrison, Head of Fundraising, will step into the role of Interim Director of Income Generation and Marketing, providing support to Nicola while the recruitment process is underway.  

Nicola says, “Although I am new to this role, I have been leading Income Generation and Marketing at the Hospice for the past three years and I have never stopped being amazed by the compassion, dedication, and skill shown every day by our staff, volunteers, and supporters”.  

She continues, “Hospice care stands at a unique and vital point in our communities supporting people and their families through some of life’s most challenging moments, with dignity, kindness, and respect. That commitment is evident in everything I see every day, from the quality of clinical care to the warmth of each personal interaction. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our teams and volunteers, whose tireless efforts make such a difference to those we serve. I am equally grateful to our donors, partners, and the wider community — your continued support ensures that we can maintain and develop the services so many people rely on. As Interim CEO, my focus is to provide stability, continuity, and support to our organisation, whilst ensuring we remain true to our values and mission.                                                            

East Lancashire Hospice remains fully focused on delivering specialist palliative care and support to the people of Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley. The Hospice is grateful for the continued trust, commitment, and support of its partners and stakeholders during this period of transition. 

After Jay Lynchehaun, 35, was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma, he was referred to East Lancashire Hospice for care in our Inpatient Unit in March 2022. Jay had already undergone years of treatment, including surgeries, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and continued to experience seizures, brain drains and complications.

When the cancer began to grow again during the pandemic, Jay chose to have an awake craniotomy in the hope of giving his family more time. Becky Lynchehaun, Jay’s wife, says, “This was the moment everything changed.” The procedure left Jay paralysed down one side and unable to speak after a stroke on the operating table, and the family were told the tumour was growing faster than ever.

Despite being told they would not be able to have children, Jay defied every expectation. Becky and Jay went on to have two children, Teddy Jay (9) and Orla Harie (6). “We were told the odds were stacked against us, but Jay always proved people wrong.” says Becky.

When it became clear that he needed specialist support, the Hospice became the place where Jay could be cared for safely and comfortably. As Jay’s condition progressed, our Clinical Nurse Specialists team supported the family with conversations about what he wanted for the final stage of his life. 

Becky recalls arriving at the Hospice, “Taking Jay in on his final journey will always stay with me,” she shared, “From the second we arrived, Jay was treated like royalty; he was offered bubble baths and the Cafe Retreat team made us our favourite meal – steak, cooked blue, and chips”

Our Creative and Support Therapies (CaST) team helped the family create memories with sand footprint keepsakes with Jay. “Being in the Hospice allowed Jay to relax, and it allowed me to become a wife again, knowing he was completely cared for medically and emotionally,” shares Becky. “The children still remember playing Connect 4 with Jay, and lying in bed watching a film together.”

In Jay’s final days, Becky remembers how the team supported the whole family. “The Hospice staff rallied around to make not only Jay feel comfortable, but to make his family feel safe. My biggest memory is how dignified they made Jay feel, even when he had passed.”

After Jay’s death, Becky received Bereavement Support sessions at the Hospice. “It was very helpful. They understood what I was going through.”

Before coming to the Hospice, Becky had been anxious about hospice care. Her experience changed that completely. “I can wholeheartedly say I would let any of my nearest and dearest accept hospice care in the future; it made something so life‑shattering a little more comfortable.”

The family recently took part in our Starlight Memories Walk event, where Teddy raised an incredible £2,625 in his dad’s name and was chosen to cut the ribbon to start the walk. Becky told us, “It made the whole experience for Teddy really humble. He was so proud, and he’s already taken his medal into school for show and tell.” The family plans to continue doing fundraising events in the future.

“East Lancashire Hospice is a place of care, dignity and kindness. They supported us, they supported Jay, and they gave us time together as a family. I will always be grateful.”

Meet Anne, who recently joined our volunteer team, and works at our new charity shop in Accrington. 

As a Retail Volunteer, Anne’s role is to support the Shop Manager, serve customers on the till, replenish stock, tag and hang new items, steam clothing, sort through donations, and help to keep the shop running. 

Anne has only volunteered for a short time, but has already made a huge difference. She has quickly settled in, bringing energy, enthusiasm, and a big heart to her role.

Anne has always wanted to volunteer, and when she saw the new retail role advertised in November, she didn’t hesitate to apply. 

Her connection to East Lancashire Hospice is deeply personal. “My dad was cared for by the Hospice 10 years ago, and I still remember the care he received. The support me and my brother were given at the time was second to none,” Anne recalls. “I wanted to give back.”

Anne has loved meeting customers and getting to know the team. “The staff are all really nice, and it’s great working alongside other volunteers. It’s also exciting to see all the stock that arrives in; the donations are fantastic!” Volunteering has already given Anne a strong sense of purpose and personal satisfaction. “I’m really enjoying it, and it feels great to make a difference,” she added.

Crucially, it helps us connect with new supporters, engage the community around key campaigns, and ensure that when patients, their friends, and families need us, they understand who we are and how we can help.

This Mental Health Awareness Week, we spoke with Lisa, our Head of People & Culture, and Mike, our Wellbeing Coordinator and Volunteer, who work together to champion wellbeing across the organisation.

Their shared insights highlight why wellbeing matters so deeply in a hospice setting, and how we ensure our teams feel supported, valued, and cared for every day.

Talking about death and dying is not an easy subject. It can feel heavy, uncomfortable, and sometimes overwhelming to even think about, let alone talk about.

But avoiding the conversation doesn’t make it easier. In fact, it can make things harder.

At East Lancashire Hospice, we believe in being open, honest and straightforward. That means we talk about death using clear language. We say ‘died’ and ‘death’, because these words matter. They help us understand what’s happening, and they give us a shared language when we need it most.

We were delighted to welcome Euroslit as one of our Bronze Ambassadors this week, presenting them with their plaque in recognition of their support for East Lancashire Hospice.

Our Ambassador Programme celebrates the organisations who stand alongside us, helping to raise awareness and support the work we do for patients, and their friends and families across Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley.

Irfan shared what the Hospice means to Euroslit as an organisation:

Kevin was admitted to the Inpatient Unit at East Lancashire Hospice following a diagnosis of prostate cancer and died in April, 2025.

Kevin was first diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2016. After treatment, he continued to live a full and active life — a season ticket holder at his beloved Burnley Football Club, spending quality time with his eight grandchildren, and remaining a very much loved part of his community.

A sudden heart attack in 2023, led to a decline in his health. As the cancer spread, he later developed metastatic spinal cord compression, leaving him paralysed and requiring full-time care at home.

As Kevin’s needs increased, he was admitted to the Inpatient Unit at East Lancashire Hospice, where he received specialised palliative care.

From the moment he arrived at the Hospice, the team on the Inpatient Unit, did everything they could to make Kevin feel comfortable and ensure his friends and family felt supported. The family were able to add personal touches, including family photographs placed around the room before he arrived.

“It felt like home almost straight away. The staff couldn’t do enough for us.” expressed his step-daughter, Leah.

“The staff were incredible at listening to our needs. We felt heard and involved throughout the process,” shared his step-daughter, Kerry.

During Kevin’s time at the Hospice, his family were also supported through a number of services. The Creative and Support Therapies (CaST) team created thumbprint keepsakes and memory pebbles, and the family were offered Counselling sessions to help them cope during a difficult time.

Volunteers also played a big part in the family’s experience. “Sylvia, the volunteer, was wonderful. Everyone was so caring. They treated us like family, not just visitors.” the family added.

Kevin’s family were able to stay close to him in the overnight family room, giving them space to spend meaningful time together, without worrying about practical responsibilities.

“It gave us the chance to just be together, as a family,” said his partner, Lorraine.

The Hospice gardens also provided a quiet place for reflection. “Being able to walk in the garden and listen to the birds really helped. Tommy, the Volunteer Gardener at the Hospice, showed us an app to find out which birds we were hearing. Those small moments meant a lot.” Lorraine added.

Both Kevin’s two sons, Karl and Scott, and his three stepdaughters, Leah, Kirsty and Kerry, and his partner Lorraine, were all able to stay day and night, by Kevin’s bedside for the duration of his final days.

Inspired by their experience, Kevin’s family have since raised funds and created care packs for families staying at the Hospice. During the time they spent at Kevin’s bedside, they realised many families arrive at the Hospice without personal items such as toothbrushes or toothpaste, and wanted to ensure that other families had access to basic toiletries when they needed them most. 

“We didn’t want anyone else to worry about the little things whilst going through something so difficult,” his step-daughter Kirsty, added.

Kevin’s family continue to stay connected to East Lancashire Hospice by attending events and supporting fundraising activities. They regularly attend events such as ‘Sunflower Memories’ and ‘Light Up a Life’, and family members have now signed up to take part in the ‘Three Peaks Challenge.’

Some members of the family are also hoping to volunteer at the Hospice, wanting to give back, after the care Kevin and the family received.

Before Kevin came to the Hospice, the family said they felt some apprehension about what to expect.

“You hear the word hospice, and it can feel daunting, but it’s nothing like what people imagine,” shared Kevin’s family.

Their experience has completely changed how they view hospice care.

“Visit the Hospice. We would encourage anyone who feels unsure to come and see it for themselves. Even if it’s just for a coffee in the café. It’s a very special place,” his family added.

East Lancashire Hospice is proud to announce that this year’s Ramadan Appeal has raised over £15,000 for the charity, bringing the total raised since the appeal began in 2015, to over £110,000.

The Hospice, which provides specialist palliative care and support to the people of Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley, would like to thank the local community for their continued generosity and support during Ramadan. 

A special thank you has been extended to long-term supporter and volunteer, Suleman Khonat, who has dedicated 12 years to the Hospice and plays a key role in organising the Ramadan Appeal.

Suleman shared, “Through helping to collect donations, I have seen first-hand the difference this support makes. The Hospice provides comfort, dignity, and compassionate care to people in their final days, while also supporting their friends and families during incredibly difficult times. There is a real sense of reassurance in knowing such a caring place exists, where people are treated with kindness and respect at the end of life.

“I would like to thank our local community for their generosity in helping to raise funds. Your support truly makes a difference. In particular, I would like to thank the local mosques for their valued contributions and ongoing support. Every donation helps ensure the Hospice can continue providing its essential services, and I encourage everyone to support the charity in any way they can.”

The Hospice also extended its thanks to the many local mosques that supported the appeal through donations and awareness, helping to make this year’s campaign such a success.

During Ramadan, East Lancashire Hospice also hosted its annual Iftar event, bringing members of the community together, to break fast in a warm and welcoming environment; further strengthening the bonds between the Hospice and the local community.

East Lancashire Hospice relies heavily on the generosity of the public to continue delivering its vital services. The success of the Ramadan Appeal highlights the power of community spirit in supporting those with life-limiting illnesses and their friends and families.

East Lancashire Hospice is excited to announce the grand opening of its new charity shop, based in Accrington.

Located on Hyndburn Road, the new shop is located next door to Costa Coffee, and is just down the road from Matalan. Open seven days a week, this new store will be a convenient destination for shoppers looking to support their local hospice while picking up great value pre-loved items.

The shop will officially open its doors on Friday, 27th March at 9:30am, offering a wide range of quality men’s and women’s clothing, children’s wear, small items of furniture, bric-a-brac, household goods, and books.

Building a Stronger Community Presence in Accrington

This exciting new addition to Accrington will help to raise funds to support East Lancashire Hospice, helping to care for the people of Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley. The shop marks an important step in building a stronger community presence in Accrington, and members of the public are encouraged to support the new shop.

A Message from our Head of Retail

Claire Shilton, Head of Retail at East Lancashire Hospice, shared;

“We are so excited to open the doors to our new Accrington shop and can’t wait to welcome the local community inside. This is an important step in building a strong retail presence here in Accrington, and we’re looking forward to meeting new volunteers, supporters, and customers who will help make this store a real success.”

After Colin was diagnosed with skin cancer, he was referred to East Lancashire Hospice for support from the Hospice at Home team. 

In the last three weeks of Colin’s life, the Hospice at Home team visited regularly. They helped with washing and personal care, both during the day and overnight, giving Kathleen time to rest or go shopping for a few hours each day. 

“They gave me time to breathe. The support I received meant everything; it meant I could properly rest, knowing Colin was in safe hands.”

After Colin’s death, Kathleen decided to attend the Bereavement Support Cafe at East Lancashire Hospice. 

“I love coming to the Bereavement Cafe, the group has helped me so much, I feel I’m meant to be here for some reason; it gives me comfort visiting the Hospice, and it’s been a great place for me to meet people who are going through the same thing.” 

During the festive season, Kathleen suggested holding a quiz and creating Christmas crafts at the Bereavement Cafe, which resulted in the group creating memory baubles to take home. 

For Kathleen, the Hospice is not just a place of care, but a place of connection.

“When I come into the Hospice, it’s nice to see the people who cared for my husband, like Chris and Leah from the Hospice at Home team. Seeing those familiar faces reminds me of him, but also how well he was cared for.”

For many, the idea of visiting a Hospice can feel daunting, but Kathleen wants to reassure people that East Lancashire Hospice is a place of warmth, laughter and care. 

“For anyone thinking of attending the Hospice, I would definitely recommend it. It gives you a feeling of belonging. It’s a very welcoming space. Some people question me when I tell people that I really look forward to going to the Hospice, but I explain it’s not what you imagine, it’s welcoming, not clinical at all.”

Looking ahead, Kathleen says she would not feel afraid if she ever needed the Hospice’s support herself.

“If I ever needed the Hospice, I would not be afraid to come.”

Despite Colin’s death, Kathleen feels grateful for the life they shared.

“I consider myself very lucky. What Colin and I had was something very special. I hope everyone finds a Colin, because this world would be a better place. I’ve got a good support network of friends, and my two daughters, Alison and Carol, look after me. I’m very grateful.”

In memory of his mum, Sarah, Sean Towers has taken on a series of running challenges, including the Manchester and Loch Ness Marathons, raising money for East Lancashire Hospice, where his mother died last year. Sean also completed a 30-mile tribute run from East Lancashire Hospice to Blackpool Tower, which was to honour his mother’s wishes to visit Blackpool Zoo and their shared memories at the Hospice.

When Sean’s mum, Sarah Towers, first came to East Lancashire Hospice, he admits he didn’t know what to expect. “I thought it would be like a hospital, but the Hospice is so homely and peaceful, it’s nothing like I imagined”, explained Sean.

During her time at East Lancashire Hospice, Sarah was referred to the Inpatient Unit, where she also received Complementary Therapy sessions. She enjoyed spending time in the Hospice gardens whenever she could, soaking up the sunshine over summer. Sean remembers sleeping in a recliner chair beside her bed for the final few nights. Other family members used the overnight stay room within the Hospice. The staff made sure everyone was comfortable; “They couldn’t do enough for us, they even let me keep items in the cafe fridges”, Sean added. Sarah had a close bond with many of the Hospice staff, in particular, Michael on the Inpatient Unit, who had coincidentally also cared for Sean’s grandad with the Hospice at Home team.

Some of their families’ most precious memories are shared with Sean’s young daughter. At only 18 months old, when her grandma died, she loved exploring the Hospice gardens. Even months later, when the family attended the Sunflower Memorial Event at East Lancashire Hospice, they found her searching for the flamingo situated in the garden pond. To this day, she refers to the Hospice as ‘Granny’s Special House’.

Sean’s mum had planned to visit Blackpool Zoo, to see her favourite animal, the orangutan. The family had a coach booked to make the trip happen, but sadly, she was admitted to the Hospice just two days before the visit. Months later, Sean took his partner and daughter to the zoo, and when he finally reached the orangutan enclosure, he was overwhelmed with emotion, “I honestly cried my eyes out, thinking of her”, he shared.

In memory of his mum, Sean has taken on a series of running challenges, from the Manchester and Loch Ness Marathons to a 30-mile run from East Lancashire Hospice to Blackpool; a symbolic journey to the place his mum longed to visit. So far, he’s raised over £4,000 for the Hospice. Even Sean’s daughter has joined in the fundraising efforts, taking part in the Hospice’s Hop, Skip, and Jump event, proudly bunny-hopping her way to raise sponsorship.

Sean reflects, “We honestly couldn’t have picked a better place for my mum to spend her last days.”

Mick first used East Lancashire Hospice’s bereavement services eight years ago following the death of his mother Eunice.

The former gardener, who has heart disease, was looked after by his mum after he suffered a huge heart attack which led to open heart surgery.

“My mum was a diamond, and looked after me when I had my heart attack. I may never get over losing my mum – but the bereavement sessions at the hospice have helped. I know that there are people here for me.”

Alongside using the bereavement services at the hospice, Mick also attends the Creative and Support Therapies (CaST) sessions each week, where he enjoys getting involved in a range of complimentary sessions including art, crafts, singing and more.

“When my mum died, I had a mental breakdown and the group has helped me to come back slowly. I feel like I am under a constant grey cloud – but the staff and the other patients have tried to help me through my journey. When I come to the hospice, I feel like the world is a little better.

“Coming to the hospice provides me with a change of scenery and for me, that helps. I don’t think I’d still be here if it wasn’t for East Lancashire Hospice. Everyone is so friendly and they all try and help you. Everyone is dealing with something, and I have made some lovely friends.”

One of the therapies Mick enjoys most during the CaST sessions is painting. In particular, creating abstracts using watercolours.

Mick has used a range of services provided by the hospice and also enjoys using the Complementary Therapy services; in particular, the aromatherapy massage, and jacuzzi bathing services, which help him to relax both his mind and body.

Mick, who uses a wheelchair, said: “I don’t have the facilities at home to have a bath. At the hospice, I really enjoy using the bathing service. There are twinkling lights and you can have music playing whilst you bathe. It’s so relaxing – and it really helps my legs too.”

Mick, who gets taken to and from the hospice via Patient Transport from his home in Oswaldtwistle, added: “They are all stars here. All the staff and volunteers deserve a medal. Everybody is so caring, and so kind, and they are there for you.”

Speaking to people who have never been to the hospice before, Mick said: “I wouldn’t be nervous. The Hospice is a special place. It’s full of happiness even on the dark days.”

Mark, from Great Harwood, never expected that one day he would rely on the support of East Lancashire Hospice.

A former ward clerk at Blackburn Hospital, Mark was used to fast-paced 12-hour shifts and a life of service within the NHS. But everything changed when he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Prostate Cancer.

After being given just three months to live, Mark was referred to the Inpatient Unit at East Lancashire Hospice, where he spent six months. During that time, he received round-the-clock care and rehabilitation, eventually returning home with support from the Hospice at Home team.

“The Hospice at Home team provided so much more than physical support; I don’t think I’d be here without them,” Mark shared.

The team visited twice a week, their help extending far beyond expectations.

The team supported his emotional well-being, taking him out to Memorial Park in Great Harwood to enjoy the fresh air and provide a sense of freedom.

“Going from fast-paced NHS shifts to a quiet home was a huge adjustment; that human contact from the Hospice at Home team was what kept me going,” Mark explained.

As his strength returned, Mark was referred to the CaST (Creative and Support Therapies) department. Initially hesitant, he eventually joined the creative workshops and found a new lease of life.

“Meeting other patients was honestly a tonic. I’ve made close friends, and now some of us even volunteer to deliver meals in the community. Being creative and setting yourself a challenge gives you purpose and keeps your imagination alive,” he shared.

Mark regularly uses the Hospice services and has more recently been referred to the Complementary Therapy department. Having struggled with chronic insomnia, Reiki, a therapy used by the Complementary Therapy team, has allowed him to relax deeply enough to enjoy a full night’s sleep. For Mark, this wasn’t just about rest; it was vital for supporting his mental wellbeing.

Mark has utilised the services provided by East Lancashire Hospice still further, receiving support from the Counselling team.

“The counselling sessions have helped me come to terms with my new life. I know how expensive private therapy can be, so being able to access counselling at the Hospice, for free, when I needed it most, meant everything,” said Mark.

Looking back at his experience with East Lancashire Hospice, Mark shares, “All I can say to summarise is thank God for East Lancashire Hospice.”

Kerry Lowe, aged 61, from Langho in the Ribble Valley, was first referred to East Lancashire Hospice, following a referral from the Oncology team at Burnley General Hospital.

Since receiving support from the Counsellors at East Lancashire Hospice, she has also started to receive support from the Complementary Therapy team.

Kerry was first diagnosed with breast cancer nine years ago. She underwent chemotherapy, a single mastectomy, radiotherapy and hormone treatment. After finishing her treatment, she gradually began to rebuild her confidence and sense of self.

Three years ago, during a routine check-up, a CT scan revealed she had secondary cancer, this time in her liver and lymph nodes. Although the cancer was caught very early, Kerry found the news frightening.

Kerry explained, “I’d really picked myself up after overcoming breast cancer. I knew cancer could come back, but hearing those words again was terrifying. At the time, I thought secondary cancer was a death sentence, but it isn’t.” Kerry now lives a healthy life with targeted treatment that keeps her cancer stable.

Throughout her experience, Kerry felt physically well, but mentally, the journey was far more difficult. She described feeling fear, uncertainty, and a loss of identity, particularly when she lost her hair. Watching how her diagnosis affected her family, including her husband and two sons, was especially hard.

After struggling to process her news, Kerry began counselling sessions with Lucy, one of our Hospice counsellors. “Lucy was amazing. She reassured me that I could still live my life. She helped me turn things around from a pot of gloom and made me realise that even with a diagnosis, I still have a life to live.”

She describes living with cancer as, “Feeling in no man’s land, my cancer is under control, but it will never be cured. For a long time, I couldn’t even talk about it. But now with the help of Lucy, I share my story because I know it helps others to hear it.”

After 10 counselling sessions, Kerry felt a noticeable change in her well-being, “I used to get panic attacks, but Lucy has taught me coping mechanisms. Counselling has helped me see what truly matters; other things in life seem so small now.”

Alongside counselling, Kerry receives Complementary Therapy, including reflexology, which she says lifts her mood every time. “Complementary Therapy is amazing, not just the treatments, but being here at the Hospice. I’ve met people going through the same thing and made real friends, who understand.”

For Kerry, East Lancashire Hospice has become a safe and uplifting place. “Everything about the Hospice is so welcoming, from the volunteers on reception who greet you with a smile, to the staff who can’t do enough to help. At first, you think a hospice is only for very serious illnesses. But now, I just think of it as a place where I can come for a coffee, get support, and feel better. It’s such an uplifting place and has been such a massive help to me.”

For June Buck from Blackburn, East Lancashire Hospice has become a place of transformation, both physically and emotionally.

After her husband and carer, Kev, died suddenly, June had to live with life-limiting illnesses alone, whilst grieving the death of her partner.

Having been diagnosed with osteoarthritis, heart failure and kidney disease, June’s mobility was limited – unable to access the upstairs of her home for over six years.

June was first referred to the Bereavement Support Team at East Lancashire Hospice, and after receiving care, was later referred to the Bathing service.

“I never imagined I’d get to enjoy a real bath again after receiving bed baths for the last six years”, shared June. “As soon as I was in the Jacuzzi bath, my stress just melted away.”

Since then, June has accessed the bathing service regularly with Therapist, Cherish, and as a result, her mobility has been restored to around 50%. Once entirely reliant on a wheelchair, June is now able to walk again with a stick.

“I’ve been able to walk with my stick and get out into my garden. Even my neighbours called over the fence, asking what on earth I was doing up and about!”

Her son and grandson have noticed the change in her behaviour, witnessing her renewed independence and energy. “You don’t realise the stress you carry in your body until something like this helps you let it go,” June commented.

The combination of the two services provided by East Lancashire Hospice has helped her both physically and mentally. “The Hospice has helped me to realise there’s still so much to live for,” she said.

For Islay, volunteering at East Lancashire Hospice has been a part of her life for more than thirteen years.

When she first joined in 2012, without any personal connection to the Hospice, she just knew it was a cause she wanted to support. Since then, her friends have been cared for by the Hospice, making her role even more meaningful.

With a background in retail, Islay had always known she wanted to volunteer, but she was looking for something different. After speaking to friends who already volunteered in our charity shops and fundraising team, she decided to see what other opportunities were available. That decision later led her to the Inpatient Unit (IPU), a place she now describes as ‘warm, comforting, and full of kindness.’

Islay started her volunteering journey on the Inpatient Unit Reception desk, welcoming families and helping with administration tasks. Over time, her hours increased, and she moved into a more hands-on role on the ward. Today, she volunteers one day a week, serving meals to patients, offering tea and coffee to families, and spending invaluable time chatting with patients. “I try to do anything that helps relieve the nurses; they’re absolutely incredible and go above and beyond for everyone.” she shared.

Some of Islay’s most treasured moments have been witnessing the many weddings that take place in the Hospice.

“Volunteering at East Lancashire Hospice is so worthwhile. We always need more volunteers, so if you’re thinking about it, do it now, do it yesterday! Whatever time you can spare is so appreciated.” she shared.

When people hear she volunteers at the Hospice, Islay says their first reaction is often sympathy. “They ask, ‘Isn’t it sad?’ But I tell them they couldn’t be more wrong; it’s such a happy place. The staff create a warm, positive atmosphere for patients and families, it’s a real privilege to be part of that.”

Barbara Starkey, aged 73, from Whalley, has been volunteering at East Lancashire Hospice for over two and a half years. She volunteers on the reception desk, greeting patients, visitors, and families with a warm smile; a role she loves as it allows her to connect with people.

Her path into volunteering began quite unexpectedly. After seeing a volunteer advert for East Lancashire Hospice, she was encouraged by a friend to apply, who had been volunteering at their own local hospice. Eager for a fresh challenge, she decided to give it a try.

Barbara has experienced first-hand the care East Lancashire Hospice provides, after her neighbour was cared for and died at the Hospice. More recently, her friend from horse riding has been receiving hospice care and was discharged from the Inpatient Unit after receiving symptom management.

Barbara has embraced every opportunity to engage with the local community. She has hosted educational and awareness visits to the Hospice with her Women’s Institute group, including a ladies’ lunch to fundraise for the Hospice. Her curiosity and love of culture also led her to attend the hospice’s Iftar event, where she learned about Ramadan traditions, tried different cuisines, and spoke with people from a range of different backgrounds about the culture of giving.

Outside of the Hospice, Barbara is an avid traveller; her favourite destinations include India, New Zealand, and Spain. She likes to practise her Spanish and immerse herself in the food, scenery, and local culture. She enjoys aerobics, book clubs, and discussion groups in Whalley, always keen to connect with others and learn something new.

For Barbara, volunteering is about more than giving back; it gives her purpose and a sense of belonging. “It makes me feel like I’ve got value after retiring, I love being part of something that helps people in such a meaningful way,” expressed Barbara.

When David Clarke’s mum spent her final three days on the Inpatient Unit at East Lancashire Hospice, he was moved by the care he witnessed. At home, her final days had been surrounded by lots of visitors; however, once she was admitted to the Hospice, her immediate family got to spend a lot more time with her. David remembers. “It was calm, peaceful and gave us time to really be together as a family.”

After David’s mum died, his dad received counselling support from the Hospice team, helping him navigate his grief. Inspired by the compassionate care their family experienced, David’s grandad chose to give back by volunteering with the Hospice’s retail team.

The strong sense of community at East Lancashire Hospice left a lasting impression on David, igniting a passion that has driven him to take on fundraising challenges for more than a decade.

Over the past ten years, David has raised an impressive £29,000 for East Lancashire Hospice. His goal is to raise £30,000, covering the cost of the care his mother received.

Year 1: A 40th Birthday

David’s fundraising began in 2015, when he decided to turn his 40th birthday into something meaningful. A family fun day, complete with stalls, a magician and a tombola, helped to raise funds for the Hospice, totalling an incredible £1,800. “I never thought we’d raise that much,” he says. “That’s what first gave me the bug for fundraising.”

Year 2: The National Three Peaks

The following year, David took on the National Three Peaks. Accompanied by his 17 friends, two minibuses and a local personal trainer guiding them along the way, the team completed the challenge in just 24 hours!

Year 3: The Yorkshire Three Peaks

After completing the National Three Peaks the previous year, David decided a new challenge was on the horizon; this time, he tackled the Yorkshire Three Peaks. Along with his five friends, a few wrong turns, and plenty of laughter, the team completed the challenge in an impressive 9 hours.

Year 4: Lockdown Workout

When COVID-19 struck, and the Hospice’s fundraising events were cancelled, David refused to stop his fundraising efforts. He livestreamed a 9-hour workout from home, which even made a feature on the national news. David shared, “I loved this challenge because my wife and children got to see me complete it and cheer me on throughout. It was a particularly important year because it was hard for the Hospice to fundraise during COVID-19.”

Year 5: The West Highland Way

The West Highland Way was next on David’s list. David’s brother and his 10 friends walked a gruelling 96 miles from Glasgow to Fort William, finishing at the summit of Ben Nevis.

Year 6: The Welsh 3000s

Year 6 was the hardest to date, with David tackling The Welsh 3000s, a 15-peak, mountain challenge in North Wales. David completed the challenge with a knee injury and challenging weather conditions.

Year 7: Triple Yorkshire Three Peaks

David revisited an old route for his seventh challenge; however, he wanted to up the ante, by completing the Yorkshire three peaks, three times over, within three days.

On the third day, David was accompanied by his family, including his aunties, uncles and cousins. David explained, “It felt like a procession; I felt especially connected to the challenge, as I was surrounded by my family”. 

Year 8: The Jurassic Coast

Year 8 saw David take on the Jurassic Coast Challenge. David walked an incredible 103 miles over four days along the South West Coast, finishing in Exmouth.

Year 9: Two treks with breathtaking views

Last year, David walked the Great Glen Way, walking 78 miles over three days. Deciding one challenge simply wasn’t enough, he decided to walk 162 miles over seven days on the John O’Groats Trail. “The sunrises and views of the cliffs were spectacular, we spotted seals, puffins and herons because the route was so remote, it was truly special.”

Year 10: The biggest challenge yet

This Christmas, David turns 50, and will also mark 10 years of fundraising for East Lancashire Hospice. He recalls how, as a child, he and his mother would find themselves out on rambles; making memories that last a lifetime.

To celebrate the milestones, David is taking on his most ambitious challenge yet: Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in memory of his mum.

Over the years, David has climbed many mountains across the UK, but this one is different. His journey will start in a tropical rain forest and end surrounded by snow-covered peaks. With a vast spectrum of weather conditions, this will be a huge challenge.

David shared, “I’m buzzing for this challenge. I’m a little bit scared of getting altitude sickness, but I’m currently training with a mask that simulates high altitude. Nothing else I’ve done comes close to this.”

The East Lancashire Hospice charity shop in Great Harwood is set to unveil a brand-new look this December, marking an exciting new chapter for the charity shop.

After many years on the high street, the shop is evolving its offer. With growing competition from other charity retailers, East Lancashire Hospice is taking bold steps to differentiate its presence, securing the future of the shop. As the shop plays a vital role in funding hospice care, ensuring its long-term sustainability is essential.

To prepare for the refurbishment, the Great Harwood shop will become an outlet store for the month of November, with all clothing priced at just £1. The clearance is an opportunity for the community to support the Hospice while picking up incredible bargains, perfect timing for winter wardrobes and early Christmas preparations.

The shop will close for refurbishment on 3rd December and will reopen on Friday, 19th December, relaunching as East Lancashire Hospice Kids, a dedicated children’s charity shop; offering pre-loved clothes, toys, books, and accessories for families across the area.

Great Harwood is home to many young families, with 25% of households having dependent children, making the new shop a perfect fit for the community.

This transformation follows the success of the Hospice’s Kids shop in Clitheroe, which, since opening over a year ago, has:

• Sold 18,818 items of children’s clothing
• Saved 34,465 items from landfill
• Found new homes for 8,660 toys
• Sold 4,801 children’s books
• Saved an estimated 112,000 kg of carbon emissions through the sale of pre-loved goods

The Hospice hopes to replicate this positive impact in Great Harwood.

The refurbishment has been generously funded by The Senator Group, who have donated all materials and labour, free of charge, to help keep the Great Harwood shop thriving on the high street.

The Hospice is inviting the community to come along on Friday, 19th December, as it officially launches the new children’s shop. The first 50 shoppers will walk away with a complimentary gift bag.

Claire Shilton, Head of Retail, at East Lancashire Hospice, shared, “I am incredibly excited about the transformation of this shop into a vibrant and playful space! We can’t wait for all the parents of Great Harwood and their little ones to explore this new venture, whether that’s trying out our toys or finding their new fashion statement.”

East Lancashire Hospice relies on its retail income, so ensuring the charity shops remain successful is essential in helping the Hospice continue delivering specialist care across Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley.

East Lancashire Hospice has launched a new appeal, ‘A Christmas to Remember’, raising awareness of the care provided to the community by the Hospice over the festive season.

At East Lancashire Hospice, Christmas is about love, togetherness, and comfort. However, for some families the Hospice cares for, this Christmas may be their last, and the charity is dedicated to ensuring it’s filled with cherished moments that will last forever.

Each year, East Lancashire Hospice must raise more than £4.5 million to continue providing expert, compassionate care free of charge to people living with life-limiting illnesses across Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley. During November and December last year, the Hospice cared for 483 patients.

The Hospice team believes that everyone deserves dignified, personalised care, surrounded by the people they love, especially at Christmas. Whether supporting patients at home or within the Hospice itself, the team works tirelessly to bring the festive spirit to life. This includes preparing traditional turkey dinners, giving thoughtful gifts, pulling crackers, or simply creating opportunities for families to enjoy precious quiet moments together.

Recognising that Christmas can also be a difficult time for those who have experienced the death of a loved one, the Hospice’s Bereavement Support Team provides tailored support to ensure no one has to face the festive period alone. Their work helps individuals and families manage their grief, reflect, and find comfort during a challenging period.

This year, East Lancashire Hospice is asking the community to make a donation to ensure that patients and their friends and families have ‘A Christmas to Remember.’
