East Lancs Hospice

East Lancashire Hospice is a registered charity, founded in 1984. We support and care for patients with a life limiting illness, their families and others close to them. We provide this in a number of ways; at the hospice and in people’s own homes across our community of Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley.

With appro­ximately 120 employees and over 250 volunteers, our people are our biggest asset whom we value tremen­do­usly. Our services to the local community would not be possible without our motivated and caring workforce who always strive to deliver excellence in all that they do. Front of House Supervisor

As part of the re-structure of our catering team, we are currently recruiting for a front of house supervisor working circa 20 hours flexibly over seven days with two days off. Due to the nature of the organisation being a charity, the catering department is assisted through many of our wonderful volunteers and so this front of house position will be different than your ‘everyday’ front of house role

You will be responsible for managing a high quality of food and drink service in café retreat and to help support the smooth running of the catering department. Manage a high level of cleanliness in café retreat and key service areas that our customers have come to expect. You must have a friendly professional approach and create a benchmark of customer care expectations to encourage repeat custom. Actively upsell specials and effectively communicate up and coming catering events to help the hospice meet their income generation goals. Effective commu­nica­tion is essential to this post and you will have to be able to remain professional when engaging in constructive feedback when dealing with our customers. Experience in processing money transactions is preferred but full on the job training can be given. Coordinate a large team of staff and volunteers in a positive and encouraging style to maintain high levels of food and drink service.

The Successful Candidate

The hospice staff and volunteers are paramount to the success of the hospice and therefore it is extremely important the successful applicant for this front of house post has strong inter­per­sonal skills, a positive attitude and approachable nature.

You will hopefully have experience in a similar position but training can be given to the right candidate. You should have a good knowledge of food and drink service and be able to supervise good customer care values to other members of staff so the reputation is consistent and the hospice is represented correctly. Strong hygienic practices and knowledge of food safety management systems is beneficial but training can be given. You must ensure a high level of service is maintained whilst adopting our core values in everything you do.

What we offer

In return, the Salary for this post is £10,399 for 20 hours, these hours support our core services between 8am and 5pm, seven days a week, you must also therefore work one weekend in every three.  The catering team have an excellent working kitchen with strong culinary experience throughout with Café Retreat recently being awarded a 5* hygiene rating.
