This post involves regular, direct unsupervised access to vulnerable adults and therefore is exempt from the Rehabi­lita­tion of Offenders Act 1974

East Lancs Hospice:

East Lancashire Hospice is a registered charity, founded in 1984. We support and care for patients with a life limiting illness, their families and others close to them. We provide this in a number of ways; at the hospice and in people’s own homes across our community of Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley.

With appro­ximately 120 employees and over 250 volunteers, our people are our biggest asset whom we value tremen­do­usly. Our services to the local community would not be possible without our motivated and caring workforce who always strive to deliver excellence in all that they do. The hospice is a unique and special place, kindness and compassion are qualities that run throughout the hospice and our people truly believe in what we do.

Health Care Assistant – Palliative Care:

This Health Care Assistant will play an important role in supporting patients and those that matter to them at the end of life. You will be expected to deliver high standards of essential nursing care whilst maximising the patient’s quality of life at all times promoting dignity and inde­pen­dence. Throughout your working day you’ll need to ensure you are observing patients and reporting any changes in condition, supporting families, maintaining accurate patient records, and ensuring you are empathic and courteous, treating people with care and consi­dera­tion at all times.

The Successful Candidate:

The successful applicant will have the commitment and ability to deliver high standards of holistic care to our patients and their families under the direction of registered nursing staff and will ideally have achieved the Care Certificate and be educated to NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent in a related field.

You will have substantial experience of working within a caring role and have supported patients with life limiting illness. With good commu­nica­tion skills you will be able to work as part of a team and relate with under­standing and sensitivity to those experiencing life changing illness.
