Hospice staff put best food forward for annual walk

Our staff are putting their best foot forward – and encouraging others to do the same - for the annual Strictly Starlight Walk.

The hospice team will be jiving their way around the route, which this year has a 5 mile option as well as the usual 8 mile length.
The staff taking part from administration, Hospice at Home, and senior management have named their team ‘Strictly off duty’ and will take part in the sponsored walk on Saturday 28 June to raise vital funds.

Chief executive Lyn Stevenson who is taking part said: “Many of the girls have walked before and know how fun the night is. There’s a real buzz as everyone comes together to support our hospice. We’re all very much looking forward to putting on a bit of sparkle this year to celebrate the hospice’s 30th anniversary, whilst raising money to help care for patients and their families in the future.”

This year the walk has a Strictly dance theme as well as new features to celebrate the hospice’s milestone anniversary. There are easy fundraising options; walkers can raise funds in the usual way with a sponsor form and online sponsor page, or they can choose to complete a dance card, similar to a football card and filled with 100 dances which friends and family pay just £1 to put their name next to a dance. When all dances have a name next to them the winning dance is revealed and that person receives £30, with the remaining £70 going to the hospice. Entrants can alternatively sign up to the hospice lottery at £1 per week, with a chance of winning a share of the £1,500 prize money given away each week.

The walk takes place on 28th June at 10pm from The Soccerdome, Haslingden Road, Blackburn. Registration costs £10 and includes an exclusive limited edition 30th anniversary walk t-shirt, medal and well-deserved breakfast. Women and girls aged 10 and over can sign up by calling 01254 733411 or at www.eastlancshospice.org.uk
