Jill Holden - Shop supervisor - Darwen hospice shop
Name: Jill Holden
Job title: Shop Supervisor – Darwen hospice shop
What does your role involve?
My role involves creating a warm, friendly atmosphere for volunteers and customers alike, where they can shop and donate goods in order to raise much-needed hospice funds.
How did you get the experience to do the role you do now?
I used to work at a busy supermarket serving customers before moving to the hospice to look after the volunteers on reception so I understand what customers want as well as volunteers needs.
What time do you start and finish work each day typically?
Times and days vary for me but I try to work 4 hours each day, 5 days a week covering the morning and afternoon shifts so I can see all the volunteers.
How do you wind down after a hard day at work?
I’ve recently taken up swimming again and have joined a synchronised swimming group. I also take my dog Alfie for walks. And a glass or two of wine always helps!
What’s the best thing about working for the hospice?
Knowing that the money that goes into the till is helping people who need it. There are so many nice people who come into the shop with donations or to buy from us. No two days are alike in my job! And the fantastic team of volunteers who make going to work fun!
