East Lancashire Hospice

Last chance to register for pub walk

Over 150 people have signed up for our pub walk organised by the Rotary Club of Ribblesdale- and there's still time to register.

The new walk is open to individuals and groups and is routed through some of the areas beauty spots including the village of Hurst Green where the 10 mile walk concludes, close to Stonyhurst College where J R R Tolkein wrote Lord of the Rings.

A team from Thornton Sports in Altham have signed up to walk in memory of Managing Director Bill Pomfret (pictured) who passed away earlier this year following a prolonged illness.

The group of 13 men and women, who have already raised in excess of £900 decided to support their local hospice as the pub walk is a fitting fundraiser to do in memory of Mr Pomfret.

David Saxby, Managing Director said: “Those who knew Bill will be familiar with his fantastically dry sense of humour and his appreciation of good food and fine wine. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and ‘tinkering’ with his vintage motorbikes. We’re sure he would approve of us walking 10 miles via 10 pubs and would no doubt tell us to have ‘a drink or two for him’. Bill was a wonderful man who will be sorely missed. We aim to have a fun time and raise an impressive amount for East Lancashire Hospice in his name”.

Several official pubs on the route from Billington to Hurst Green which include The Foxfields Hotel,Three Fishes,Bayley Arms,Black Bull,Aspinall Arms,Hurst Green Social Club and The Petre Arms.

There is a shorter walk option and a longer route for the keen walkers.

Registration is £10 and closes at midnight on Monday 25th May. Entrants can sign up  by clicking here or by calling 01254 733410.
