Lisa Dootson - Staff Nurse, CaST
Name: Lisa Dootson Job title: Staff Nurse, creative and support therapy (CaST)
What does your role involve?
I assess new members that are referred to CaST and set up individual care plans for each member. We reassess these every 8 weeks to make sure we are delivering the best care and support we can. We also provide therapeutic activities for the members such as baking, gardening and art to name a few.
How did you get the experience to do the role you do now?
I qualified as a nurse in 1996 and I have worked mainly on medical wards. I was lucky enough to secure my post at the hospice in November 2014.
What time do you start and finish work each day typically?
I currently work Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 9-5 but this may change as the department develops.
How do you wind down after a hard day at work?
I enjoy spending time with my family. I have 3 daughters aged 16, 14 and 8 who keep me very busy. If I do have any spare time left for myself I enjoy walking in the Lake District with a pub lunch thrown in or going for a long ride on my horse.
What’s the best thing about working for the hospice?
I work with a brilliant team of colleagues who are supportive and very motivated to deliver the best care we can. I feel proud that we make a difference to the lives of our members and their families at a very difficult time.
