East Lancashire Hospice

Masonic Charity lights the way with garden grant

The hospice has received a grant of over £4,700 The East Lancashire Masonic Charity (ELMC) Community Fund.

The grant means we are able to complete our external lighting scheme in the recently landscaped gardens and woodland walkway.

Last year we received £105,000 from the Department of Health Capital Grants Scheme to deisgn a new garden area on the existing overgrown land to the rear of the building. The facility was officially opened last September by X Factor star Reece Bibby from Accrington and is now available for patients, community groups and fundraising events to use the impressive new surroundings.

The Masonic Charity grant will pay for additional external lighting so that area can be used all year round and is safe in the darker months to enjoy the features which include a quiet reflection garden, woodland path, park area and the main focal point of a stone stepped ampitheatre.

Fairy lights will also be added along the garden trail, with additional power outlets and lighting for the natural stone amphitheatre.

David Lightbown, East Ribble District Chairman, along with Ian Johnson presented the cheque to Sharon Crymble, Hospice Fundraising Manager on the amphitheatre steps.
