Miller Metre

For years David Miller has put his money where his mouth is so far as giving to charity is concerned – and that’s not just dipping his hand in his pocket.

David has dedicated hours of his time preparing to run in 10k races to help raise money in the fight against prostate cancer and has taken part in a sponsored cycle race from Manchester to Blackpool in support of other charities.

And now David, 38, has entered his company Miller Metre, electrical and maintenance services, of Patterdale Avenue, Blackburn, in the East Lancashire Hospice’s 2018 Corporate Challenge.

David prides himself on attention to detail – even his company name is a play on words using the minutest of measurements … a millimetre! And he feels that the attention he is applying to deciding which ways to raise money will help him achieve his dream target of more than £10,000. For a business that consists of just himself and his nephew and apprentice Zac Miller that would be a fantastic achievement!

Miller Metre was founded three years ago and already has won impressive domestic, commercial and industrial contracts and it’s the commercial and industrial deals David sees as being the future of the company. David said: “The business is doing really well and the name has helped in that it stands out rather than say just something like David Miller Electricals. It's the smallest of details that matter and the derivation of the name Miller Metre is a good example.”

Through business David met up with Anthony Green, managing director of Blackburn Yarn Dyers, who tempted him to join the Corporate Challenge.

David explained: “I’ve done a lot of work for Anthony and he urged me to join the Corporate Challenge. A friend’s mum received some wonderful care there so I thought how I would like to help. Another of Anthony’s friend’s David Wilcock, of Hugo Burrito, has also joined the challenge so we have planned to organise some of the bigger events together and share whatever money we make.”
