Patients' work displayed in first hospice exhibition

It was a hive of activity at the hospice as patients admired their work at our first ever art exhibition.

The work has been created exclusively by Creative and Support Therapy members and around 100 patients, family, friends, volunteers and staff arrived to see the exhibition titled 'This is us!'

The Mayor of Blackburn Cllr Alan Cottam also attended the launch event and said he was very impressed with the paintings and other creations.

The launch was opened by  Lynn Montgomery, Clinical Services Development Facilitator. She welcomed patients, families and staff to the event and said: “It’s a privilege for the staff to be part of something like this as it's the first time we've held an exhibition produced entirely from the work of our Creative and Support Therapy members.

"Some might look at a person in a wheelchair, or on oxygen and wonder what they can do. But the point of the hospice, and  today's exhibition is proof that those things don't stop a person being able to make something wonderful and finish it.

"When you look at the artwork, it isn’t just the finished piece that you are seeing, but the journey that the person has been on.Some of the artwork on display today has been produced by people who are sadly no longer with us, and the process of dealing with that for the other members is all part of the process. The exhibition and the reason you are all here today as family and friends is to understand what the members can achieve when they come here."
