Taylor set to tackle Ben Nevis in a dress!

A 23-year-old man will be tackling Ben Nevis in fancy dress to raise money for the hospice that cared for his mum before she passed away.

Taylor Connelly will be tackling Ben Nevis in Scotland, hiking 4,413 feet to the summit of the tallest mountain in the UK, in memory of his mum Isabelle Connelly who died from cancer in 2015.

He will be taking part in the challenge on 19 July – what would have been his mum’s birthday – along with pal Ben Dodsworth.

Taylor, originally from Darwen but now living in Barton, will be donning a dress and wig and taking part in the sponsored challenge dressed as Mrs Brown from the popular Irish sitcom Mrs Brown’s boys.

Taylor said: “In her final days, my mum received the highest level of care and was given the dignity she deserved by East Lancashire Hospice.

“The care was exceptional. It was obviously a very hard time for all the family, but the magical staff were incredible and so caring. They make the whole process as pain free as they can for both the patients and their families.”

Each year East Lancashire Hospice has to raise £3.7million of funding to enable it to continue to provide care to people with life-limiting illnesses in Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley.

Taylor has set himself a target of raising £250 for the hospice.

He said: “My family are really proud of me. It will be tricky with the heat – especially wearing the costume.”
