Volunteer Van Driver

Role: Volunteer Van Driver

Location: East Lancashire Hospice Warehouse, Brunswick Street, Balckburn 

Accountable to: Warehouse Manager (This person will be your main point of contact while volunteering. They will provide you with the support and supervision necessary for you to perform your role). 

Role requirements: Working as part of the team of staff and volunteers in the East Lancashire Hospice Furniture Warehouse.  Using a hospice vehicle, carry out pre-planned collections and deliveries of donations and bought good that are sold to raise funds for East Lancashire Hospice

Role Summary: 

When we need you to be available: 
We have shifts available Monday 9am to 4pm or Saturday 9am to 1pm.  You will be given a regular day which enables us to be able to plan shifts and allows you know which day and time your regular commitment is going to be.  However, a flexible approach would be appreciated.  Please indicate what days you are available on your application form.

Skills, knowledge, abilities and qualities:

  • Full driving license with a maximum of three penalty points
  • Over the age of 25 (this is a condition of our vehicle insurance)
  • Physically fit and able to lift
  • Pass an occupational health eye sight test
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Comfortable talking to people and enjoys meeting new people
  • Ability to communicate with people
  • Smart presentable appearance
  • Experience of van driving may be an advantage but is not essential

What we would like you to do:

  • Carry out pre-planned collections of donated goods on behalf of the Hospice using a Hospice vehicle
  • Carry out deliveries of items that have been bought in the Hospice Warehouse using a Hospice vehicle
  • Carry out deliveries to and collections from the Hospice shops using Hospice vehicle
  • Ensure that the Hospice vehicle is kept clean and presentable at all times
  • Ensure that health and safety procedures are maintained and all risk and repairs are reported via the Hospice systems
  • Deliver a high level of customer service to all customers and donors
  • Work as part of the Warehouse team
  • Attend an annual retail team volunteer meeting
  • Comply with current policies and procedures applicable to the role

  • Undertake training and development applicable to the role
  • Be friendly, respectful and courteous to patients, visitors, staff, customers and other volunteers at all times
  • Ability to follow instructions and be able to work unsupervised
  • To ensure the information you have access to as part of your role is kept secure and confidential
  • Work at all times to safeguard the rights of individuals promoting their wellbeing and protecting those at risk from harm by advising staff of any concerns
