Creative and support therapies

Our Creative and Support Therapies (CaST) service offers a range of holistic activities and programmes designed to promote patients’ wellbeing.

Patients are supported in a welcoming environment alongside others who may be facing similar challenges, giving them the opportunity to share thoughts, feelings and experiences.

The service encourages independence, helps patients develop new skills and hobbies, allowing them to engage in meaningful and enjoyable activities.

Activities may include gardening, arts and crafts, singing, games, seated exercise, outdoor activities, discussion, and debate.

There are many benefits of Creative and Support Therapies, some of which include; enhanced wellbeing and independence, increased confidence, setting and achieving personal goals, sharing life experiences, building connections and friendships, and discovering new skills, interests and hobbies.

Services

Patients are supported by our team of Therapy Assistants to take part in a wide range of activities, helping them to learn new skills and develop new interests. The service has access to dedicated spaces, including an arts and crafts room, a room for singing and light exercise, an activity room, as well as outdoor areas and gardens.

Following an initial assessment to identify each patient’s individual needs and goals, suitable activities or sessions will be agreed and attendance arranged.

Sessions are held Tuesday to Friday between 10.00 am and 3.00 pm. Lunch can be purchased from Cafe Retreat at a subsidised price, or patients can bring their own lunch.

Referrals

Referrals can be made through healthcare professionals, such as your GP or District Nurse, and by self-referral. With the patient’s consent, a friend or family member may also make a direct referral to the service.

Accessing other hospice services

We regularly work alongside other hospice services and make referrals when appropriate. Our holistic approach puts the individual’s health and wellbeing at the centre of everything we do, helping them make the most of life.

Our team will work with the North West Ambulance Patient Transport service or with the Hospice’s volunteer transport team to arrange transport; however, these are both subject to availability.

The Hospice’s cafe, Café Retreat, offers a delicious range of food and beverages and is available for patients to purchase at a subsidised price; or there is an option to bring your own food.
