Ann has ten thousand reasons to be thankful
A great grandma from Blackburn can’t believe her luck after winning £10,000 on the East Lancashire Hospice lottery.
Mrs Ann Crump was left speechless after scooping the rollover – just four weeks after joining.
Ann said: “I didn’t believe it when Gill from the Hospice told me I’d won the jackpot. It was so surreal. I’ve only just calmed down! I have never won anything, and it goes to show that it really could be anyone who wins.
“I was so shocked when I got the call. They told me there was no rush coming in to pick up the cheque – but I was there within 10 minutes. I had to see the cheque to believe it was real.”
Ann signed up to the subscription after a lottery canvasser visited her home last month. She said a family member was cared for at the hospice before passing away two years and received the care and support of the staff.
“East Lancashire Hospice is a great cause. A lot of people think the hospice is just somewhere to go to die - but there’s a lot of other services they offer. Nobody is immune from illness, and you never know if you’ll need it someday.”
Ann, who turns 73 in September, retired from her job as a playground assistant at St Peter’s School in Blackburn two years ago.
She said she doesn’t know what she and husband Fred will spend the money on – but admits it will be a big financial help.
She said: “I have four children, seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter - so they might get a bit more this Christmas.”
Gill Graham, Lottery Administrator said: “We were all very excited about the draw and it was made even more of an occasion by Blackburn Rovers Legend, Kevin Gallacher being involved and announcing the winning number 32157 .
I knew it would be a big surprise for Mrs Crump when I made the call so suggested she took time to let it sink in then call me back. When we met later that morning, it was great to hear about her family and how pleased she was to have won.”
