Wellbeing Support Volunteer

Role:  Wellbeing Support Volunteer

Location:  East Lancashire Hospice (including all retail shops)

Accountable to:   Head of Wellbeing, Support and Development

(This person will be your main point of contact whilst volunteering. They will provide you with the support and supervision necessary for you to perform your role)

Role requirements:   Minimum age 18 years; Two satisfactory references, and DBS 

Role Summary

To support our Head of Wellbeing, Support and Development in promoting and delivering wellbeing support for staff and volunteers across East Lancashire Hospice and our charity shops. Your contribution will help foster a healthy, supportive, and compassionate environment for everyone involved in our work.

When We Need You to Be Available

  • Minimum commitment of one morning or afternoon per week (between 09:00 and 16:00)
  • Attendance at an initial induction session
  • Attendance at mandatory training updates

What We Would Like You to Do

  • Help plan and organise Wellbeing Week for staff and volunteers
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of a 12-month wellbeing programme
  • Visit our shops and engage with volunteers to gather feedback and ideas
  • Keep staff and volunteer wellbeing boards updated with relevant content
  • Assist in organising events such as staff awards and volunteer thank-you events
  • Take minutes at meetings such as Volunteer Support Meetings
  • Where appropriate, support one-to-one and small group wellbeing activities
  • Work across hospice locations and our shops
  • Share thoughts and suggestions for new wellbeing initiatives
  • Recognise your own limits and promptly raise concerns or incidents to the Head of Wellbeing, Support and Development or a senior member of staff.
  • Complete induction and all relevant training, including understanding and following key policies
  • Always maintain a friendly, harmonious, and collaborative approach to staff, volunteers, patients, and visitors
  • Treat all information about volunteers, employees, and patients as strictly confidential
  • Adhere to all Health & Safety policies and procedures
  • Promote the wellbeing and rights of all individuals, and act on any safeguarding concerns in line with hospice policy
  • To complete our in house Blue Steam mandatory training modules - Accident and Incident Reporting / Adult Life Support Level 2 / COSHH / Cyber Security / Safeguarding Adults / Safeguarding Children / Preventing Radicalisation / Mental Capacity Act / Information Governance / Fire Safety / GDPR / Domestic Abuse / Equality & Diversity / Principles of Health & Safety

  • Understanding of (or willingness to learn about) mental health and wellbeing – awareness of what supports people’s emotional wellbeing

  • Comfortable using basic technology – able to use email, access training modules, or input notes where appropriate

  • Respectful of diversity and inclusion – values and celebrates difference, promoting a safe and welcoming environment for all

  • Commitment to hospice values – kindness, dignity, respect, and care at the heart of everything you do
