Local Estate Agent unlocks potential for patient services
For many years now, Dee and Keeley from local estate agent Lock and Key have supported East Lancashire Hospice after experiencing a number of personal challenges within their close-knit family which started with them losing Dee’s Dad and Keeley’ Grandad 26 years ago. Then, 22 years to the day of the anniversary in 2017, Dee’s Mum and Keeley’s Nan, Doreen underwent an operation to have her lung removed in Blackpool Victoria Hospital whilst at the same time, Dee herself was in Royal Preston Hospital undergoing an operation to remove legions from her voice box.
Thankfully, both Dee and her mum made a full recovery and in 2019, spurred on by their desire to give something back to their local community, Lock and Key sponsored the hospice’s Bubble Rush, an annual fundraising event with all proceeds generated allocated directly towards the provision of patient care. The whole family participated including Dee’s daughter Beau who was just 3 years old at the time.
Since then, Dee and Keeley have continued to support the hospice both personally, by attending events such as the Starlight Memories Walk and Light Up a Life, but also through their business. Most recently, they have achieved this with a Sales Initiative which involves them making a donation of £100 for every house sale they make, regardless of price.
Keeley commented “Family is extremely important to us and together we have overcome many challenges. Supporting the hospice was the obvious choice for us and we feel it is extremely important to educate the next generation about the importance of giving to local charities and the role they also have to play in this as they get older. Both my daughters, Beau, now aged 6 and Ruby aged 2 are always keen to help with any of our fundraising efforts and Beau particularly is always asking what we are doing next!”.
Leanne Green – Fundraising and Lottery Lead at East Lancashire Hospice said “To date, Dee, Keeley and the team at Lock and Key have raised an incredible £1600 for the hospice, all of which enables us to support patients and their families at the time when then need us the most and ensure that they can make the most of life. From everyone here at the hospice we would like to say a huge thank you to them for their continued support”.
And Dee and Keeley have plenty of ideas for the future too and how they can further support the hospice, which they hope to do by expanding their business into other areas over the coming months. Watch this space!
