Local man raises £300 from the sale of Thwaites Brewery DVD

A local man who documented the story of Blackburn based Thwaites Brewery and its demise by its demolition, which included the famous Thwaites Tower, has donated all the proceeds from the sale of his DVD to East Lancashire Hospice.  Mr Billington captured the footage using a professional drone over the period of 12 months as portrayed on the DVD.

Fast forward 18 months and we are delighted to have received a cheque for £300 from Mr Billington who sold an amazing 30 copies of the DVD!

A hit with historians, the fantastic DVD documented the end of an era at Thwaites Brewery, Eanam and has seen orders were placed from all over the country!

Mr Billington who worked as a Photographer all his life and produced the DVD himself through his business AJB Photography said of the project “I didn’t initially tell the hospice what I was doing as I wanted it to be a surprise when they found out.  I am delighted to say that the DVD has proved to be very popular and I’ve heard some very interesting stories from some of those people who have bought a copy”.

Katie Elliott – Fundraising and Marketing Lead at East Lancashire Hospice said “This was a really unique and fascinating project that highlighted a huge part of Blackburn’s Heritage, a town that is at the heart of our community.  We were thrilled when we discovered that Mr Billington had decided to donate all of the proceeds from the sale of the DVD to the hospice and on behalf of everyone here would like to thank him for his incredible efforts”.
