Sunflowers Bloom for East Lancashire Hospice
Throughout the summer East Lancashire Hospice held their annual Sunflower Memory Garden, giving the community the opportunity to remember their loved ones by making a donation to the hospice in return for a wooden sunflower plaque, bearing the name of the person they are remembering. These sunflower plaques were then either planted in the hospice gardens for people to visit, or sent out for them to plant in their own gardens.
The Sunflower campaign has been a highlight in the hospice’s Income generation Calendar for many years now and this year has been the biggest one yet with over £9,000 raised in total for patient care and this year it was sponsored by Darwen based business and long-time hospice supporters, Elektec.
Charlotte Knowles of Elektec commented, “We are delighted that our sponsorship of the Sunflower Memory Garden has helped to raise £9,005 for the hospice all of which will go directly towards the provision of patient care. We know that it costs over £10,000 per day to run the hospice and as a small, local electrical company, the Elektec team are extremely proud that our efforts both with the Sunflower Appeal and our free PAT testing, mean we are able to cover the cost of running the hospice for a full day and provide a vital service for patients and their families at a time when they need it the most”.
Leanne Green, Fundraising and Lottery Lead for East Lancashire Hospice finished by saying, “As a hospice and an Income Generation team, we always focus on ways we can support our community and offer them different ways in supporting their local hospice. The Sunflower Memory Garden is such a lovely campaign we are able to offer, as it gives our supporters a nice way of remembering their loved ones and something they can keep forever.”
She continued, “We are extremely grateful of the amazing support we receive from local businesses, especially Elektec. By our corporate supporters sponsoring our campaigns and events, we are able to raise maximum funds which enable our fantastic clinical team to provide the invaluable care needed to patients in our community.”
As well as the Sunflower Memory Garden, East Lancashire Hospice also offer Light up a Life, whereby supporters can remember loved ones at Christmas Time by making a donation to East Lancashire Hospice and illuminating a star on their virtual night sky.
