East Lancashire Hospice

A Patients Story - Making time for Trevor

Trevor Nuttall started attending East Lancashire Hospice as a day patient late in January 2020, a few months before lockdown commenced on 23rd March.

Like many of our patients who accessed our Support and Well Being services prior to the start of the pandemic, not being able to visit the hospice this past 6 months has been extremely challenging for Trevor, in particular as he lives alone.

Over recent weeks however, colleagues from the Support and Well Being Team are delighted to have been able to visit Trevor in his home in Accrington which has been a huge source of comfort and relief to him.

During the visits, Vicky, our Practioner - Creative and Support Therapy, has been baking with Trevor and so far together they’ve made a whole host of tasty treats, including sweet potato soup, cheese and onion pie as well as a cake!

Trevor explained, “Without the weekly visits from Vicky and her colleagues, life is very boring and Vicky gives me someone to talk with and more importantly to laugh with!  I like to have a laugh!”

Over the past few months Trevor has spent some time in hospital and although when he was first discharged someone was able to assist him with his food shop, he now does his own shopping on a daily basis.  Whilst making his daily shop, Trevor has been setting aside £5 each time and feels so grateful for the support that he receives from Vicky and her colleagues that he has now decided to make a very generous donation of £300 to the hospice so that in turn, he is able to help others like himself.

For all of us here at the hospice, Trevor’s kindness and generosity despite his own personal circumstances, is incredibly touching particularly at what is an exceptionally difficulty time for everyone. It is also a reminder of the strength and support that comes from being part of the hospice family.

On behalf of everyone at East Lancashire Hospice we would like to say a huge thank you to Trevor, whose donation will go a long way in helping us to ensure that all of our patients in the hospice and out in the local community are able to make their most of life.
