Blackburn Chemicals Donate £15,000 to the hospice in support of their local community

East Lancashire Hospice was recently delighted to receive an extremely generous donation of £15,000 from local business and long term hospice supporter, Blackburn Chemicals.

Based at Whitebirk Industrial Estate in Blackburn, the family run business was formed 49 years ago in 1972. All six of the founder’s children helped the company to become established as world leaders in their field. In 1997 the youngest son, Steven took over as Managing Director, since then, the family connection has continued with three of the founder’s Grandchildren currently holding responsible positions within the company.

Today Blackburn Chemicals supplies over 250 products to 70 countries and employs approximately 85 staff, with the majority coming from the Blackburn with Darwen area.

This incredible donation is one of many kindly gifted over recent years by the organisation who have previously sponsored the hospice raffle as well as donated prizes such as corporate hospitality packages to be auctioned at the hospice’s annual ball, which the family have also attended.  In addition, members of the Lamb family have also volunteered their time, treasure and talents at the East Lancashire Hospice shops.

Jack Lamb, Sales Manager for Blackburn Chemicals stated “As a family run business employing local people, it is important to us all that we give something back to the local community.  As a team, we nominate a number of local charities to whom we donate and East Lancashire Hospice is a charity close to our hearts, having seen first-hand the wonderful work undertaken by them.   We understand that the past 18 months has been difficult for them as a charity and we are only too delighted to give our support as we know how much it means to them”.

Katie Elliott – Fundraising and Marketing Lead at East Lancashire Hospice commented “On behalf of everyone here at East Lancashire Hospice, we would like to thank the team at Blackburn Chemicals for their extremely generous donation all of which will go directly towards the provision of patient care.  It costs £3.9 per annum to run the hospice which equates to over £10,500 a day and these monies will fund hospice services for a full day and a half, which includes; our 10 bed Inpatient Facility, Community Nurse Specialists Team, Hospice at Home Team and Creative and Support Therapies Team enabling us to help our patients and their families to make the most of life.
