Hospice supporter to reach £10,000 raised by taking on a challenge of all challenges
Hospice supporter, Dave Clarke and 10 friends are taking on a challenge of all challenges in September to raise money for East Lancashire Hospice. A charity close to Dave’s heart.
Dave, who was born in Blackburn but now lives in St. Helens, has been raising money for the hospice since 2016, in memory of his mum who was cared for in her final days by the hospice team.
In September Dave and a team of friends will be taking on The West Highland Way. This is a 96-mile walk from Glasgow to Fort William and will take place over 5 days, but the challenge does not stop there. The team will then be finishing by walking up Scotland’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis.
Dave, who loves setting himself new challenges and new ways to support the hospice said, “it’s always a pleasure raising money for such an amazing place like the hospice, and they need support more than ever due to the current situation. The challenges seem to be getting bigger and much harder each time but the motivation is to help people get the special care they need when needed most, as was the case with my mum.”
During the first lockdown, Dave had organised to do the Three Peaks in just 9 hours. Unfortunately this could not go ahead due to restrictions, but this did not stop him from making sure money was raised for the hospice. He decided to do a fitness challenge, which consisted of treadmill, step-ups and other various workouts in 9 hours. With the support from family and friends, he managed to raise £1,600.00 from this and also encouraged his 12-year-old son to join in, taking part for 4 hours of the challenge.
Leanne Green, Fundraiser at East Lancashire Hospice said, “We are always amazed when Dave comes to us with his new challenges and so grateful for his support and dedication. He has raised an amazing amount for patient care over the years and without his and the communities support in raising the money we wouldn’t be able to provide the care needed for our patients.”
