O'Tool Open Success
After the success of the O’Toole Open Golf Day which brothers Mick, Brian, Larry and Norman O’Toole organised on 17th June 2022 at Blackburn Golf Club for family and friends, East Lancashire Hospice received a cheque for £1,970.
The Golf Day was originally held in memory of their brother Joe O’Toole, who used the Hospice services in 2016, and Karen O’Toole, Larry’s daughter who was supported by the hospice in 2020 during her own illness at just 45.
“My brother Joe called the hospice his second home. They made him feel welcome and cared for whilst he was there.” Mick explained
Larry clarified further “Karen used the Hospice in August 2020 when she was diagnosed with cancer at just 45. The care both Joe and Karen received was just brilliant. We cannot thank the East Lancashire Hospice enough for what they have done for our family, so we do what we can to raise funds on their behalf. Everyone playing has some links with the hospice and want to say thank you for the care offered to their own loved ones.“
The brothers wanted to make sure the Beehive Inn and Cherry Tree Cricket Club were acknowledged for all their support, not only on the day, but also over the years raising money for the hospice. “They have always raised money for the hospice; with tubs, raffles and cards.”
With the support of the Beehive Inn run by Barry and Carol, and the Cherry Tree Cricket Club, they have now managed to raise more than £11,500 in total for the East Lancashire Hospice over the past few years.
The day was such a massive success the O’Toole Open Golf Society has now been created and the band of brothers are already looking forward to next year. “We will be thinking about inviting teams of four from local pubs and clubs to help us raise even more funds.
“It is no longer just about our family members, it is about raising money for the hospice so everyone can benefit. We want to hit that £20,000 mark. That’s our next target. It may take a couple of years, but we are determined to do it.”
With big plans already formulating for next year, East Lancashire Hospice are looking forward to supporting them. Gabrielle Williamson, Marketing Co-ordinator added “The brothers already have lots of ideas formulating and we can only ever be grateful for their passion to support the hospice. We will certainly do all we can to help them hit the target they have set.”
