Running in the Family
Laura Cameron is a runner from Darwen. We know that because she has already completed the London Marathon in October 2021, the Great North Run in September 2019 (Dressed as a Prosecco Bottle) and the Darwen Half Marathon in April 2019 (where her nephews, Tom and Jack Mayoh were handing out the medals and awards).
Her completed runs are always in aid of East Lancashire Hospice, where her sister Louise Mayoh, Tom and Jack’s Mum, was cared for in July 2018.
But she has decided she no longer wants to run on her own.
Her daughter, ten-year-old Charlotte Cameron had already joined her, and successfully completed a mile a day for a month in April 2022 on behalf of the hospice, raising an incredible £460, so it was natural that Laura looked to the whole family for support.
Which is why she has enlisted the rest of the children in the family to run the East Lancashire 10K and children’s 2K with her on the Saturday 15th January 2023.
The four cousins found the registration entry for the East Lancashire Hospice run in their Christmas stocking as a gift from Father Christmas, and the training has already begun.
Nephews Jack, Tom, Laura’s daughter Charlotte, and her son Eddie will be joining her on January 15th 2023, helping to raise more money for the hospice.
People may remember Jack and Tom Mayoh as the “boys who wore shorts” for a year. Tom and Jack Mayoh have already raised over £30,000 on behalf of the hospice since July 2018 in memory of their mum. Laura has successfully raised over £5000 to date.
Now Laura will be completing the 10K whilst the children will be taking part in the 2K. Tom and Jack who attend St Bede’s with their cousin Eddie, and Charlotte, Eddie’s younger sister and already one of the fastest girls of her age in Blackburn with Darwen, attends St Barnabas in Darwen.
The family do not like to ask too much from people. Laura’s brother in law Gareth Mayoh, Louise’s husband explained, “We want to continue to raise for the hospice, but we don’t like to ask, as any donation is very generous.”
When asked what his role on the day was, and whether he would be running, he confessed he would be at the finish line, ready to provide the prosecco and pork scratchings. “My knees can’t take it, but the kids are really up for the challenge.”
