This Sunday marks the fourth annual East Lancashire Hospice 10K event, hosted by Gaskell Motor Bodies
Nick Gaskell, owner of the charity-minded business, has supported the hospice for around seven years.
Each year, the 10k continues to grow in size, with over 500 competitors taking part in the adult, junior or fun run last year.
Nick, 46, from Whalley, said: “East Lancashire Hospice is our local hospice and has a special place in our hearts. You never know if or when you or a loved one may need it. We have to ensure that it is there when people need it most in the future.”
The Trawden Athletic Club member said: “We wanted to do something for the hospice. I'm a keen runner myself, running 60-70 miles a week. It’s something I’m passionate about and there are lots of good routes near the garage in Great Harwood.
“I started the 10k in 2012. This is the fourth year and its gone 300 runners to 500 last year and all the money goes to the hospice.
“We have a big unit which we can use as the headquarters on race day. We hope the event is still running in 30 years.”
The 10K starts at Gaskell Motor Bodies on Alan Ramsbottom Way in Great Harwood, and follows cycle tracks, the old railway, Cutwood Park Rishton and back along the canal tow path.
Other supporters of the event include Up and Running - Clitheroe, Universal Cooling Ltd in Oswaldtwistle, Cannonball Events, Complete Runner in Ilkley, Tony Bolton Sports in Accrington and Tesco who will provide goody bags for the kids.
Nick said: “I'll be running on the day. I did it last year for the first time. We have a good team doing it now and I’m hoping for around 33 minutes.
Online entry for the event will close tomorrow. On the day entries will be £15 and are subject to availability.
