Match in memory of cricketer
Friends gathered together to play a cricket match in memory of a treasured friend and former colleague, Colin Smith, in aid of East Lancashire Hospice.
The charity cricket match took place on Thursday 29th April at Tonge Cricket Club in Bolton and was organised by Peter Labatt from Darwen, and Paul Fernside from Bolton.
Peter commented: “We’ve been friends with Colin for over 30 years. A group of us first started playing cricket together when we all worked at Chorley Hospital, and have been organising matches a couple of times a year ever since.
"Colin always played at all of our cricket matches and we have all grown old together, so we made the joint decision to hold a match in memory of him. We decided to raise money for a local hospice and so all players made a contribution on the day of the match.”
A one minute’s silence was observed before the friendly match in memory of Colin.
In total, the two teams raised an impressive £335 for the hospice.
