Nhs worker gets crafty for charity

A kind-hearted theatre nurse sold custom-made theatre caps to colleagues at Royal Blackburn Hospital in aid of East Lancashire Hospice.

Nhs worker, Carolyn Richard, 56, from Blackburn, used her spare time and energy to make bespoke caps for theatre workers at Blackburn Hospital.

The idea originally came about when theatre staff experienced a shortage of PPE and caps in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

Crafty Carolyn commented: “I love making things and thought the caps would be a good way to raise money for the hospice, whilst helping out with the cap shortage situation at work. 

I chose to support the hospice as I care and it’s nice to be able to make a difference to a local charity. My aunty used the hospice when I was younger too.”

The thoughtful theatre nurse also made crochet baskets to sell over the Easter period too. 

In total, Carolyn raised £400 for the hospice through her fantastic fundraising efforts. 

It’s not the first time the nurse has shown her support to the hospice, as she’s done poppy appeals, sold knitted characters at Christmas and even completed a gruelling 90-mile bike ride in aid of the hospice in the past.
