East Lancashire Hospice

Ramadan Collection raises over £20,000

On Sunday 21st August, East Lancashire Hospice welcomed the Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, Suleman Khonat to the hospice along with representatives from the community to thank them for donations made during Ramadan, with Leanne Green, our Head of Fundraising and Marketing.

Over 50 members of the local community were invited to the event to thank them personally and to help them see how their Lillah donations make an impact on the lives of those who use the services.

Leanne introduced the event with a description of the services available within the hospice and how the money raised will allow services to continue. She offered them some insight into the occasions when East Lancashire Hospice stepped up and beyond for their patients, including personal events such as wedding and anniversary celebrations for our patients.

Ann Dobson, a member of CaST (Creative and Supportive Therapy) gave insight into how the hospice supports her and her needs, and the impact it has on her personally, before passing over to Toni Ruddy our Supportive Care Team Leader, who chatted about her role in the hospice, supporting patients at home.

The community raised over £20,000 in Lillah donations, a staggering amount which Councillor Suleman Khonat thanked those present for. He described how his own experiences with the hospice impacted his decision to support any way he possibly could.

Visitors were taken on a tour of some of the day services available, allowing them to direct questions to members of staff, whilst viewing the complementary therapy rooms, the bathing services and the CaST services before being treated to a wonderful feast sponsored by Blackburn based company Star Tissue.

It was a lovely day with glorious weather and wonderful stories from the hospice of the care they offer.

East Lancashire Hospice extends its thank you to everyone for their help in raising such an astonishing amount.
