Feniscowles Cricket Club pay tribute to much loved member of the community
Players and colleagues from Feniscowles Cricket Club recently paid tribute to a much loved member of the local community, Alison Turner who sadly passed away after a battle with cancer.
Feniscowles Cricket Club was a big part of Alison’s life as her husband Richard and son Simon play for the team and for many years, Alison also used to serve tea and coffee on match days.
To honour Alison, the Executive Committee at the club led by Brian Hopwood, rallied the troops and organised for everyone to donate their subs to East Lancashire Hospice in Alison’s’ memory. An incredible total of £500 was raised which will go directly to the provision of patient care.
Richard Turner explained what it meant to him, his daughter Sarah, son Simon and the whole family to be supported by the hospice “When Alison was admitted to the hospice it meant we were able to visit her which hadn’t previously been possible due to Covid restrictions at the hospital. As a family, that was the most important thing to us. The hospice is an amazing place and we really could not thank them enough for what they did for us all, but in particular for Alison in her final days”.
Brian Hopwood President of Feniscoles Cricket Club said “Alison, Richard, Simon and Sarah have been a part of Feniscowles Cricket Club family for many years and we all wanted to do something to support them as a family when Alison passed away. Players and colleagues from all three of our teams, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd/Sunday team donated their subs in memory of Alison with everyone wanting to chip in”.
In addition to the money raised for the hospice by Feniscowles Cricket Club, Sarah and her partner Andy Woolner recently completed the Three Peaks in memory of Alison which raised an additional £1420 for the hospice and together with additional donations made in Alison’s memory, the total raised for the hospice combined is an amazing £2775!
Leanne Green Fundraiser at East Lancashire Hospice said “It costs £3.9 million a year to run the hospice which equates to over £10,500 a day and we could not do what we do without the support of our local community. We are incredibly grateful to Richard, Sarah, Simon, Brian and everyone from Feniscowles Cricket Club for their fantastic efforts in Alison’s memory. The money raised will go a long way towards helping us care for our patients and their families at the time when they need us the most”.
