Kathie is running the East Lancashire Hospice 2K.
Kathie Oates from Blackburn is taking on the 2K this January at Gaskell Motor Bodies, Great Harwood with her friend Romana Afzal for East Lancashire Hospice in memory of her mum Helen Oates.
“My mum Helen used the hospice services when she was transferred from Blackburn Hospital at the end of October last year. She passed away on the 12th November peacefully. The staff at the hospice were fantastic. You know the hospice are there, but don’t realise what a wonderful job they do until you or your family need to use their services.”
Which is why Kathie is taking on the 2K.
A Senior Project Officer at UCLan, she and Romana, who also lives in Blackburn and works for the University, have done runs at Witton Park in the past, but confessed it has been a while, and knew the 10K would be too much at short notice. “I’ve done the couch to 5K in the past and have run 10ks back in the day, but nothing recently.” Kathie explained.
“My sister, Jacqui would have joined me, but she is on holiday, whilst my brothers David and Kevin are proud we have raising money for the hospice.”
Kathie and Romana set a target of just £100 for the hospice on their Just Giving Page, but are looking to raise more than that.
“We are keen to support the hospice wherever we can and have already signed up for the Will Week for my Dad, Jack Oates with Farleys Solicitors, and we will be keeping an eye out for their other events to see what else we can do to help support East Lancashire Hospice.”
Dylan, and Kaitlin, Kathie’s children are as impressed as the rest of the family, as are all the staff at East Lancashire Hospice.
Jackie Morris from East Lancashire Hospice Fundraising added, “We are here to help when people like Kathie work so hard to raise money for the hospice. It is thanks to Kathie, Romana and so many other wonderful supporters that we can continue to be here for our patients and their families.”
