The sky is the limit for Sam
Sam Cocken from Accrington, will be jumping 11,000ft out of plane on Saturday 30 October for East Lancashire Hospice after a surprise given to him from his wife, Vicky Cocken.
This summer Vicky gave her husband, Sam the surprise of all surprises by signing him up to take part in the East Lancashire Hospice Sky Dive. Last year her father, Russ Cuddihy was cared for by East Lancashire Hospice before sadly dying.
Russ spent his final 3 weeks at the hospice and Vicky said, “We chose to raise money for East Lancashire Hospice as it’s a charity close to our hearts. My Dad spent time at the hospice and it’s where he received the palliative care with the respect and love that he deserved, but we also received support and help as a family for which we are truly grateful.”
She continued, “A good friend of ours also spent her final weeks at the hospice in 2008 after a long battle with cancer, passing away just months before her 30th birthday. The services that the hospice provides to those that need it and their families is invaluable.”
After coming to terms with the idea of jumping out of a plane in just 1 months’ time, Sam is looking forward to it and not only doing it to raise money for East Lancashire Hospice but also for the thrill of a life time. He said, “Losing loved ones has taught us that life is for living, so what better way to feel alive than to jumping out of a plane.”
Leanne Green, Fundraising and Lottery Lead for East Lancashire Hospice commented, “It’s amazing to hear the different ways people in our community support us and when we find out one of our supporters will be taking part in the sky dive, it shows the dedication people have for their local hospice. Jumping 11,000ft from the sky is such a dare devil thing to do and to know Sam is doing it for East Lancashire Hospice in memory of his Father in Law is just amazing and we are extremely grateful of the families support.”
