East Lancashire Hospice
East Lancashire Hospice is a registered charity, founded in 1984. We support and care for patients with a life limiting illness, their families and others close to them. We provide this in a number of ways; at the hospice and in people’s own homes across our community of Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley.
With approximately 120 employees and over 250 volunteers, our people are our biggest asset whom we value tremendously. Our services to the local community would not be possible without our motivated and caring workforce who always strive to deliver excellence in all that they do. The hospice is a unique and special place, kindness and compassion are qualities that run throughout the hospice and our people truly believe in what we do.

This is an exciting new role created as part of the growth of our team, reflecting our commitment to strengthening volunteer engagement and wellbeing across the organisation. As our team expands, this post offers the opportunity to make a real difference in shaping how we support and value those who give their time so generously.
The Volunteer and Wellbeing Coordinator will play a key role in supporting and developing our volunteers, ensuring they feel welcomed, supported, and able to thrive in their roles. The post will also have a strong focus on wellbeing – both for volunteers and as part of our wider team culture – helping to create a positive, inclusive, and caring environment. This is a varied and people-focused role, ideal for someone who enjoys building relationships, organising activities, and supporting others to feel part of a community where their contribution is truly valued.

To thrive in this role, you’ll bring experience of working with and supporting people, ideally through volunteer coordination, wellbeing, or community engagement. Strong organisational skills are essential, as you’ll be balancing recruitment, training, and events with one-to-one support. Just as important are your personal qualities – you’ll need to be approachable, empathetic, and able to connect with people from all walks of life. Because this role is about creating a positive and supportive environment, we’re looking for someone who is compassionate, emotionally intelligent, and professional, with the resilience to support others while maintaining clear personal boundaries. Your ability to listen, encourage, and motivate will be key to ensuring that our volunteers and staff feel valued, included, and supported.
What we offer
The role is offered at £24,570 FTE (£14,742 pro rata) for 22.5 hours per week, with flexibility around working patterns and the option to discuss alternative arrangements that suit both you and the hospice. Some evening or weekend work may be required, but we pride ourselves on being a supportive and flexible employer.
At East Lancashire Hospice, you’ll be joining a team that is passionate about what we do and proud of the difference we make. Rated Outstanding by the CQC, the hospice has a strong culture of care, collaboration, and continuous improvement. You’ll be supported by an experienced Head of People & Culture, with opportunities for personal development and the chance to contribute to a forward-thinking organisation that truly values its staff and volunteers.
We have an excellent, collaborative working environment with a generous holiday allowance of 27 days + Bank Holidays with the option to buy additional days. You will have access to learning and development opportunities, ongoing training, and funded access to a private health scheme. There is also onsite parking and an onsite Café with reduced staff prices.
Aside from the terms and conditions detailed above, you will joining a very special and unique organisation, where people are at the heart of everything we do.
