Owen completes 32-mile board-breaking challenge!

A Darwen Dad completed a 32-mile run, raising over £1100.

Owen McGill completed the run breaking 2 boards every 5 miles, a total of 18 boards in around 6 hours, and believes he has completed a unique challenge.

Owen said: “The run wasn’t too bad. It was a hot day which made it a challenge. Shane Green who is a friend of mine cycled from Preston to Kirkham with me and I even ate an ice cream while running! I also called a few people on my mobile for a chat. I got a few strange looks at the board breaking points from passers-by. They mustn’t have had a clue what was going on! I’ve contacted the Guinness Book of Records to see if the challenge can be listed as I don’t think I’ve ever seen this done before. When I got to the Holiday Park at the end, there was a whip round which raised £100. I’m overwhelmed with the awesome amount that’s been raised for such a worthwhile charity.”

Owen decided to take on the run in memory of his son's mother Sarah Glover who was cared for at the hospice.

Hospice fundraiser Kimberley Hall said: “We’re amazed and thrilled that Owen completed this challenge and raised over £1,000. Whether it’s a World record or not Owen and the people who have supported him have made a difference to patients and their families and we’re very grateful to all.”

Blackburn Martial Arts and Kickboxing Club head coach Simon Jones gathered kickboxers, jujitsu juniors and seniors and Owen’s wife Jane McGill and daughter Daisy, 5 were also on hand to help present the cheque to East Lancashire Hospice along with Sarah's Mum Shirley Speakman.
