Welsh 3000 completed

Dave Clarke came in today to chat about the Welsh 3000 he completed within 24 hours with his team in July.

The team, which includes his brother Allan and a number of friends, did a fantastic job and raised another £2634 in memory of Margaret Clarke, David and Allan's mum, who used the hospice services in 2014.

“We have completed a number of challenges since my mother passed, including the West Highland Way, the National Three Peaks and the Yorkshire Peaks, all to raise money for East Lancashire Hospice and the fantastic care my mother received here.”

The Welsh 3000 is a 51km trek through 3 mountain ranges, climbing 15 mountains, all above 3000 feet, and the aim is to complete this under 24 hours.

"It was tough, the toughest challenge so far, and I'm not sure we can beat that. We were one of the few groups who all completed the challenge. Our guides informed us that very often at least one person in a group will give up on the Welsh 3000, but we did it!"

So far, David and his family have raised over £18,000 on behalf of East Lancashire Hospice, a staggering amount, but he hasn't finished yet. “We know it costs more than £10,000 to run the hospice per day. We want to raise enough to pay for the care our mother received during her three days. This is a collective team effort to reach that £30,000 target."

Gabrielle Williamson Marketing Co ordinator for East Lancashire Hospice commented; “We are always astonished by the generosity of strength and spirit from fundraisers like David Clarke, his brother Allan and their friends. They are all fantastic supporters of the hospice and we can’t imagine what challenge they will attempt next year.”
