Anita Knagg - Volunteer
Anita Knagg a dedicated volunteer who contributes greatly to the hospice charity shops in Great Harwood, Wilpshire, and the fundraising department, she has been involved with East Lancashire Hospice for over 12 years.
Passionately participating in fundraising events and organising activities, Anita is known for her creativity; dressing shop windows and knitting chickens to cover creme eggs at Easter and Christmas pudding chocolate oranges during the festive season.
Anita's connection to East Lancashire Hospice began when the niece of a close friend was cared for there. Wanting to give back, she, along with two other families, formed the FUN Raisers. A group that tirelessly raises funds for the hospice through discos, party nights, quiz nights, fashion shows and more. Her family, including her brother-in-law, husband, and daughter, often join her efforts, creating a true family affair.
One significant memory for Anita is the car raffle. As the first volunteer registered to drive the raffle car, Anita travelled to various fairs and events, selling raffle tickets for the hospice. The red Citroën DS3 was eventually won by an elderly couple from Mellor, creating a memorable moment for everyone involved.
Anita’s involvement with the hospice has brought her immense personal joy and a sense of purpose. It has allowed her to engage with the community and make a meaningful contribution since her retirement. She believes the unique aspect of the hospice lies in its people—the caring staff and volunteers who foster a nurturing environment for each other and the patients.
What Anita loves most about East Lancashire Hospice is the people she has met and Café Retreat. She appreciates its welcoming atmosphere, delicious food, and the fact that it’s open to everyone, not just hospice families. It serves as a social hub, benefiting both the hospice and the wider community.
