Richard Sutlieff - Trustee
Richard Sutlieff's journey with East Lancashire Hospice began through a family connection. His uncle, Ivan Hunt, was the first Chairman of the Hospice 40 years ago and encouraged Richard to support the hospice. Richard started as a volunteer and then joined the original committee that preceded the Board of Trustees. When the hospice management changed, he became one of the first trustees.
Reflecting on his time with East Lancashire Hospice, Richard recalls many key moments, especially those that saw the hospice expand its facilities. These expansions allowed the hospice to offer more care to those in need within the community, a development that filled him with pride. Knowing that their efforts made a tangible difference was deeply gratifying.
Richard’s involvement with the hospice is also personal. His mother sadly passed away at East Lancashire Hospice, and the care she received during her final days brought great comfort to him and his family. This experience solidified his commitment to the hospice, keeping its mission at the forefront of his life.
Over the past four decades, Richard has witnessed the hospice’s growth and its profound impact on the East Lancashire area. The exceptional level and quality of end-of-life care offered by East Lancashire Hospice sets it apart from other healthcare institutions, making it a beacon of hope and compassion.
For Richard, what he loves most about East Lancashire Hospice is its unwavering love and care, qualities that have always made it a special place in the community.
